Our prep focus for week three is one of the most important yet most overlooked. Sanitation!
1. Determine basic hygiene needs for your family. Do you need diapers or Depends? Feminine products? Special soaps or skin products?
2. Toilet paper? Consider an inexpensive bidet.
3. Make a list of the supplies you need for your family for your goal (1 month, 6 months,1 year)
4. Consider where you can reasonably store sanitation supplies in an organized way.
5. Explore alternative ways of hand washing, showering, and disposing of human waste without running water or working sewer.

Growing up we didn't have running water or an indoor bathroom. We had a pump on the well and heated buckets of pumped water on the stove and used a tin washtub to bath in. Diapers were cloth and we rinsed them and put them in a bucket of soapy water till we did the wash in our wringer washer. We did have TP but could have used cloth there too and rinsed the rags and reused. We have gotten away from a lot of that but the modern conveniences are wonderful to have. We just need to remember that there was a time they didn't exist.

I have a large rainwater system and buckets to transport water to bathrooms for toilet use for our septic system here in the mountains, we have a porta potty and heavy trash bags for the basement and have water stored down there also, multiple bulk packs of bar soap and liquid soap.

LOL - you guys can take any subject and make it fun. Thanks for that. It would be a toss up between not having a washer machine of a nail file/clipper. Both are difficult to live without. As a side note, I found out that the typical person uses about 7 sheets per bathroom visit and visits about 5 times a day. So 35 sheets per person per day is a useful measurement on how much TP to store. I also found that the large industrial rolls of TP are cheaper and easier to store than any of the Charmin-type rolls. ...for those who don't yet have a bidet. Thank you for reminding us about sanitation.

Chilli over pasta, over rice, over shredded freeze dried potatoes, over a slice of bread. Think these are all possibilities.

Have basic recipes like taco soup where you just dump a can of meat, beans, corn, etc.

Soup: canned meat, string beans, corn, carrot, onion. Pasta, rice, or potatoes.

Just choose a recipe you use. Canned, freeze dried ingredients... dont forget spices.

first recommendation Learn how to make wet wipes they can be used for many purposes. there are also ready-made hair washing caps with which the hair can be washed, the product does not need to be rinsed at all.

I made chicken and dumplings! I love when I can just go to my closet or bins and not the store to spend money. Thank you for the great tips and this 13 week focus group of prepping with purpose. And the much needed item would be personal Wipes. Never know when you need a quick freshen up. 👍🏻

I would not want to be without soap and toilet paper. I think I am pretty good on supplies but I really need to figure out how to plug things up so I don't get a back flow in things go really bad. I have watched your videos on that and they make so much sense but I feel like I need to try them out and make sure I can do them. I wish I just had a simple shut off valve that would take care of all of it for me.

I think you need to mention plastic bags for disposal of waste! I think soap would be my number one and it is very cheap to stock up on and lasts forever.
