Correction: The Mono Box was released in 2014 I said 2012 in the video.

The new stereo mix is fantastic. It is so much better balanced and has an increase in clarity when compared to any other stereo mix of Revolver. The bass and drums have real presence. She Said, She Said has some issues where the guitars lost some power in the separation. That really is my only complaint. The outtakes are throughly enjoyable and I can see returning to them. I do my own recordings in my home Protools-based studio, so I enjoy “process” and hearing how the band and producer arrived at the final mixes.

I’ve been waiting for the mono-mono comparison, appreciate that and everything else — this is a really great analysis of the box. Looking forward to my copy. Thanks, Mike!

I think that my problem is primarily with the double-tracked vocals. On those tracks with double-tracked vocals, Giles Martin has elected to hard pan one vocal track to the left speaker and one to the right resulting in a very vague center image of the lead vocal, almost as if the vocal is out of phase. I would have preferred to have the double-tracked vocals combined into a tight center image.

The 2012 digitally remastered version of Revolver on vinyl is outstanding!

For me the remix feels like almost an autopsy of the record so you can better understand the instrumental anatomy of the album and can go back to the mono mix and better understand the final product. I don’t see myself going back to the remix the same way I’ll go back to the mono.

Absolutely agree, The Esher Demos we’re worth the price of admission. It was definitely not a listen once and put back in the box. The 2014 mono boxset, I think you mean? As much as I wouldn’t mind a copy of the 2022 mono mix, I’ll continue to enjoy my 2014 mono box until prices hopefully come down on the deluxe set. I just ordered the stereo remix, and I’m a fan of Giles’ remixes. They’re a nice current mix of the stereo, imo. That said, I do prefer Revolver in mono.

Thx for the review - no need to buy. Have the original- ascollector for 55 years prefer my $1.87 US and UK ones.

Agree with your take on the new remix. The word I would use is that it’s not ‘organic’ sounding. Bass is too loud on some tracks, vocals are mixed out front, and the new mix of She Said, where they separate the lead guitars, sounds dreadful. For me, the original mono mix is still the best to listen too.

"It is not Revolver", with this statement you explain why I am so critical with most remixes, thank you.

Revolver was my first experience listening to a record in stereo. I was 7 years old. My brother had a suitcase type with detatchable left and right speakers. When I heard the first few seconds of Taxman my mind was blown.
Revisiting Revolver 55 years later with the new mix was equally mind blowing. I feel Giles repaired the gaping open space in the soundstage. Very enjoyable for me.

I enjoy the remix. For me, it feels like Giles Martin dolled up and "fixed" a few tracks to really bring out the life in them, but the ones that were perfect already he left alone. I thought it was a nice, subtle approach, much like his Let it Be remix. I think each remix project he's done has been better than the last!

Mike, I appreciate this video. I ordered the CD version of the Revolver box set, and I am very pleased with it. I must confess, I buy the new Beatles box sets more for the packaging than the remixes. Like you, I have so many versions of these albums that I'm suffering from "version fatigue, " (if that's a thing!). I listen to CDs with a Pioneer XLR balanced output player run through a Decware tube stage which gives a nice warm sound. I have Klipsch LaScala speakers and the sound is fantastic. I still put on the '66 Capitol stereo and mono vinyls that I grew up with, and they sound great. Even the pops and clicks sound great to me. As George Harrison says in the Anthology video, "I prefer a bit of tape hiss."

Good to hear Mike. I ordered this primarily for the mono mix included with it. That's encouraging news. 😊

Great coverage. Correction, the mono box was done in 2014 and not 2012. Pretty disappointed that there aren’t any flip backs on the jackets on the new box set. Everything else seems well done, down to the “SOLD IN .U.K.” text. Did you like the remix of Paperback Writer and Rain?

you can listen to it a million times, it still sounds like a Frankenstein.

The issue of repetitive, or substandard tracks on sessions is why I prefer the CD version of any set featuring discs full of alternate tracks so you can program your favorite set.

Amazing and people should not always expect everything to sound the same. Especially when they remastered and remix the Albums they have done stop far so that all the songs Will sound better with the equipment and stereo systems that we have today in the Year 2022 vs back in the Albums original release date. I'm sure they had the access to equipment that we are using in 2022 to make it sound the best that they can they would do just that because they wanted every album they released to be the best quality they could give us.
