Instead of smothering the child's face with a rag, you can just pick up the child and move them away from the situation until they calm down... (Working with them on regulating their emotions.)

And don't give in to the kid who tried to bite! When they are finally calmed down, then you can return to the situation. Figure out what the kid wanted (ie, bear), then help the biter find their own toy/stuffy.

I do like the idea of using sign language to communicate though. That is super helpful for toddlers who can't talk yet.

Hey, friends! My sister-in-law is a working mom who cannot keep her eyes on her kids at all time. Do you have any advice for moms of biters who have to work or take their eyes off of the kids?

I can see this working for younger toddlers, but past 24 months or so I feel like the victim is going to be too upset and confused to distract easily. Would like to see more explanation on this strategy and its impact on both children in the situation.
