I own a Porsche 911 GT3 RS and also an old 1998 Porsche 911 996 generation with 70,000 miles on the clock. The list price of the 992 GT3 RS is £250,000 but my 996 is worth about £25,000 - following a bunch of modifications I've done to it which are designed to make it more like a GT3 to drive. In this video I find out if my real GT3 RS is actually 10 time better than my old 996.

If you're not a track regular, the RS is really a vanity item, bar the once every few months when you notice or get to push it a bit on a challenging empty road.

It'd be cool to see the 992 GT3 RS vs the first GT3 RS

Matt the tyre sealant goes under the higher cover under the bonnet. There is place to Velcro it. It doesn’t need to go in the glovebox

I'm probably the only person who would rather just have a Turbo S. Faster, more comfortable, has a trunk, AWD weather proof driving.

I own a 996.2 in Cobalt blue. I think it’s aged beautifully

Totally get it: I like to get max bang for my buck and for a while had a C2 996 3.4 manual. Then I tried a facelift 996 GT3, thinking it probably wouldn't be 'that' much different to my car. Oh my word, it was a TOTALLY different experience. Even today, ten years + later that drive still sends a shiver down my spine.

So yes, if you have the means to enjoy these things without breaking your finances, go for it.

The sound from my 996 is utterly addictive. I hunt high walls and tunnels just to hear that raw, raspy, sound, cutting through the air 🎵

Some Porsche snobs don't know what they're missing out on. Love the 996 😍😍Exhaust mod really makes a difference.

Great and always funny reviews! However, I do not see the point buying a GT3 RS and not tracking it. But entertaining comparison and the 996 C2 manual is a fantastic bargain and values are going up. I prefer the gen 2 though. The 3.6 torque is lovely, better interior and gearbox too. Also got the Ohlins on my 996 and those are amazing and you can play around with the settings depending on mood or type of road.

I just don’t like the look of the GT3RS. I find the spoilers too fussy, the wheels are ugly. It looks like something from MaxPower and I’d feel a bit of a d*ck driving it. I know it’s a great road / track car, but I prefer the simple lines of a Porsche. Big love to you Mr Watson, love your videos, be they here or on CarWow, you always make me laugh.

I cackled when I heard him say the poly bushings are only a bit noisy. I lied to myself about poly suspension bushing noise for awhile too. Give it time you'll likely regret that mod. Not throwing shade I just went through this myself.

The 996 represents the best value for money 911 in history and is an appreciating classic. The new cars are going to lose sooo much money by comparison, especially when the financial system collapses.

I'm not a Porsche fan but that GT3RS does look awesome.
You did say it was a bad road but it looked like it was _porpoising_ a little bit.
Is that the right word?

MAT, how lovely to see someone being honest about the fact, that a decently modified 996 3.4 - and this one is IT! - is basically enough for a maximum of driving pleasure! Nice, nice, nice... You don't want to know how I REGRET selling my former Horizon-blue 1991 964 3.6L Carrera 2, with a cuprohr-exhaust. Still dream about it at least once per week...

Matt is spot on. The 996 has the best lines of any 911 ever made: thanks Pinky!!

I had a 911 way back in the 80s. I called it Bobby. You can still see why with these later generations.

When you paid £250000 for the GT3RS at retail and are going for minimum £330000 2nd hand I would say that's money well spent

For me, the deciding question will come down to how much you can repair the new car compared to the old one. It doesn't look like there is much you'd be able to do on the new one but the old one seems much nicer to repair..

If I had the space I'd love a 996 project. They're such an underrated and undervalued car.
