Conventional medicine minimizes cultural formulations as legitimate partners. However, there are connections between cultural practices and modern medicine. Passionate and insightful, psychologist Fayth Parks reveals how common elements in healing traditions connect a person to positive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Dr. Parks shares her personal journey and, from her research, an age-old blueprint for healing and recovery.

Fayth Parks is a licensed psychologist and associate professor at Georgia Southern University. She has over 25 years experience studying disparities in rural education, rural health care access, and cultural competency training. In 2009, she was a David B. Larson Fellow in Health and Spirituality at the Library of Congress.

That was interesting and don’t usually like the Tedtalks, but the way she told her story and tied it into education was FaBulous!!

Very affirming of inclusive healing practices, and really interesting about the 'age-old ' blue-print for healing and recovery seen in such a wide range of very different cultures. As someone studying medical anthropology, these are really good ideas to think with. Thank you, Professor Parks
