For those who don't know, the DS&S discount is based on only two factors: average annual mileage, and whether you speed above 80+ MPH. My wife and I are excellent drivers, have a score in the high 80%, and yet get < 1% discount from DS&S on our daily driver due to average mileage (est. 20k miles per year). I followed up with my agent, and they confirmed that the State Farm advertising is misleading. "Good driving" is irrelevant (except for speeding above 80+ MPH). Drive less, save more. That's it.

What if you top out your car at 175mph+? Will they use that data to straight up drop you? If they can’t increase your rates from the data. Can they use it to consider insuring you period or even evaluate their liability with you and give you a custom rate for future cars you insure?

I'm curious does that thing work only if your phone that you have it connected to is inside of the car on Bluetooth basically does the phone that it connects to and sends the data to have to be in the car for it to record the data?

Just signed up for the program. As for the Toyota, our agent explained that the minimum discount was 1% even if it "hates" the way you drive. He also mentioned the driving over 75mph might trigger it. If you're in Texas, there are plenty of highways where 75mph+ is a legal speed limit. I'm just going by what the agent said though. We'll see in ~6 months how things look.

I receive several false readings on the app. Sometimes I'm not even in my car or parked with the engine running. In bumper-to-bumper traffic, it gives a low rating for breaking. Also, it is questionable if I am receiving any discount at all. It's like they jack up your premium price, and then apply some discount to make it appear you are saving money. My regular 6 month premium runs about the same as it did before DSS. When I call my agent, I got a lot of mumbo/jumbo, but no proof I had saved anything, just a lot of convoluted justification. I only drive a few hundred miles per year, as I use mass transportation most of the time, and my vehicle is parked.

I have a problem with it saying I'm going around 5mph more than I actually am going. It does give you a buffer of 8mph over the speed limit which is nice, so I usually go about 5mph over with the flow of traffic, but it seems very inaccurate.
I literally set my cruse my control at 50mph in a 45mph, and I have a bunch of dings saying I was going 55mph or more.

I saved $141.46 For my 2016 Buick Regal for the six-month period ending February 2021 just like you. I signed up with State Farm Drive Safe and Save but didn’t check the Beacon. Contacted State Farm about why my trips weren’t being recorded. I’ll check the beacon and replace it if necessary. It’s free. I love this savings program. Thanks very much for your video. Great info, thank you! I just started using Drive Safe & Save and I have two questions:I see the overall trip score is comprised of 5 parameters (Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, Speeding, Phone Use) Each one has its own 5-part bar graph. According to a review from dadmba, each bar represents an event, or “ding”. If that's true it doesn't make sense to me because it would be unfair to expect the same number of events for a one mile trip compared to a 100 mile trip. Is that really how it works? I would expect the score to be based on events per mile. Obviously getting a perfect score for a short trip is much easier than for a long one.

I'm about to switch my insurance and start this program. The State Farm agent I'm working with did state that 30% discount is the max for Texas. I'm nervous to switch, but I don't drive much. So, may be worth it.

Question 2: Does State Farm consider the car you are driving? When cornering for example, a sports car can safely make a turn at a higher speed than a minivan.
