Are you a basic Christian? In slang, when someone is "basic" they are unoriginal, unexceptional, and mainstream. Jesus was nothing of the sort. To be like Him is to be unique, free, simple, confident, mature and so much more. What makes Jesus so attractive is that He is unlike anyone, yet so much like us at the same time. In this episode, Alex preaches on "How to not be a basic Christian" from Matthew 5;34-48 and Lokelani confesses her struggle with self-righteousness. ⁠

To be honest yeah sometimes I am basic because at times it is just easier to fit in and be like everybody else because i don’t know I just wanna fit in with the crowd. I need to stop being basic because God made me set apart so why would I want to fit in ? I gotta work on standing out at times yeah it’s hard but I gotta let God work through me and be the salt and light of the earth that HE calls me to be ❤

God showed me basic is loving with conditions, he’s really been showing me “I want you to love in spite of “ just as I love you….with that I was able to be there for my Mom as she was transitioning a few months ago after having a love hurt relationship for years..I’m able to still pray for my daughter’s father even though he left when I was pregnant 17 years ago, and I’ve had to raise my daughter as a single parent. Because I strive to not be basic…I’m able to help her with father hurt and encourage her to genuinely pray for him and their relationship. Not because you’re a Christian, but because you have the heart of Christ. Now I’m basic at times when my soul is tired of turning the other cheek, and my flesh wants to protect my heart, but then I remember The cross when Jesus said the ultimate I Love You…thank God he wasn’t basic ….you two preached a word with this one.

What Lokelani said at the end has profoundly touched me Nd reminded me of how lost i once was and God in His love sent Jesus to find me and make me His... Love, grace, mercy and forgiveness given to me .... there is no way to measure that at all and it is because of Jesus that we are able to love, forgive, give grace and mercy to others.
I find it easier to do that with unbelievers for they remind me of who i once was... yet i struggle at times to do it with fellow believers or relatives... and as i type this... i believe we sadden and hurt God's heart when He sees us behaving like that... we forget we are sinners, redeemed, and in a walk of sanctification... each being at different stages and therefore, we arw bound to come across instances where we REALLY find it hard to give the grace, mercy love and forgiveness to them.... we forget we are to please God above all... and He told us to love our enemies, it means we can in Jesus alone because He loved us first. I want to grow in loving people believers, non-believers, ALL like Jesus loved and loves us ❤
Whenever i find this hard... i am going to stop and ask myself what would Jesus do in such situation trusting the Holy Spirit will show me, because i want to live the way that pleases God even if it is seen weird to others!! 😂 That reminded me a short Alex made that God loves weirdoes 😂😂 We surely are seen And treated as weirdoes in the eyes of many, but hey! so was Jesus in the eyes of many who did not believe in Him!
I also thank God and all those who help make it possible for your podcasts not to be interrupted ... It has helped me inmensely to focus on the message without loosing thread... I love you ALL and pray God to grant us the blessing of loving others despite all, like Jesus loves us, with His love. May we be fountains of God's love that lead others to Jesus, closer to Him each day. I love you both and your babies ❤❤ God less you beyond measure!!

I'm very basic... Meaning I do hate those who hate me and and love those who love me. I try to love my enemies but it's like they decided to put a thorn in my heart and when I pray "help me God to love them" they just go and do something to hurt me and it's so bothersome. Thank you guys for this message, much needed! I can say Ive had a lot of times of being a basic Christian. Thinking I was above others cause He chose me, not realizing that’s very prideful and not Jesus way at all. He’s humbled me and showed me true ways to love others. Everyday He is sanctifying me, showing me different areas in myself that I don’t like but resting in Him knowing He’s working on me, showing me how to truly love others as I love myself. In parenthood as well, to not allow frustration to lead in parenting, but unconditional love ❤.
