I think Powell was years ahead of the time when he made this film, now we can fully appreciate it, although it was criticised heavily at the time, he was brave to follow his convictions.

Thanks James. Something about owning those early spines in the best quality possible is worth the price of admission alone. Sad how critics can end a filmmakers career even someone who has directed amazing films in the past.

I've seen Black Narcissus on The Criterion Channel and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. And luckily for me Peeping Tom currently streaming on the channel, will watch soon and if I like it I'm buying during July sale. Thanks for the review James.

Great review! I'm new to your channel, so looking forward to checking out your reviews :) glad Criterion have re-released this in the US and that this once controversial thriller is getting more attention. Crazy to think it came out a few months (certainly here in the UK) before Psycho! It was very prescient and anticipated certainly today's Youtube/Tiktok culture. Interestingly, people often mention that it ruined Powell's career, this isn't strictly true but the film also had a lasting impact on leading man Carl Boehm's career.

I can’t wait to get this one on 4K. I had it on VHS, then the Criterion DVD. I’m sure the Technicolor will look incredible in 4k.
