It's calm after the storm in the second movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, op. 67. The heading "Andante con moto" literally means "at a walking pace, with motion." As rendered by Paavo Järvi, Conductor of the Year 2019, and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, this part of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is a lyrical moment of rest with a lovely theme that sounds out at the beginning in the violas, cellos and double basses. There are actually two themes. First one is varied, then the other. Enjoy!
Deutsche Welle and Unitel Classica present Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, recorded in the Beethovenhalle Bonn in 2009.

Everybody focuses on the first movement when the second movement is as enjoyable too, if not more.

This conductor clearly knows the piece by heart.i dont know of any conductor who could get away with that much enthusiasm in the first few measures.

Never heard a piece that sounded so much like the embodiment of past reflection and nostalgia. Ex-lovers and the adventures you shared, the innocent summers of childhood. A tinge of sadness and regret but also a strong feeling of fondness, all within the first minute.

This is just perfection. The orchestra's is playing exquisite and Jaarvi's sense and command of both tempi and sound quality does this music the greatest justice - it sounds fresher and more remarkable than ever

What would we be without von Beethoven? The sheer power and majesty. Thank God.

This part makes me cry since my childhood...the older, the better I understand why, but remains quit incomprehensible

I am new to classic music but after finishing hearing the Proms 2012 Beethoven symphonies with Daniel Barenboim and reading comments and seeing him conduct without sheet music I was totally impressed
