i feel like Evelyn is what Yeonmi is fighting for. a young north korean girl able to live a life in freedom, someone who loves palm trees, new clothes and vlogging their day to day life.
also her mom is badass!! i would love to see an interview with her, and then eventually a movie lol her story is incredible

Wow that mom was a smart and brave woman. She had all of the contacts in order as well. She was planning escape possibly before she even was caught and put in prison. Every day she suffered she probably told herself if she ever got out of there alive that she’d escape and get her daughter out of there. She completely knew the risks and did what she had to do for a better future.

It is devestating as well as beautiful how feeling the same pain can bring people together. I wish both Evelyn and Yeonmi a peaceful and wonderful future. More than anything else that they one day will be able to visit their country as a free country. How could an American citizen sponsor a North Korean defector? What would it cost to get a small family out? My wife and I would definitely sponsor if there was a way to do so.

How courageous of Evelyn's mother, even after being jailed, willing to take the blame if they were caught while in China. Her mom, and Evelyn too, are so brave.
