The Belgian Malinois is one of the most loyal, hardworking breeds there is. They’re often confused with German Shepherd Dogs, which are bigger and heavier boned than the Malinois. Malinois also have their own unique work ethic, and they excel at a wide variety of tasks.

I adopted a 6 month old female German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix and she's such a good dog! She's very smart and learns things quickly. Definitely recommend doing research! I did tons and tons of research after i got her and it has helped me build a strong relationship with her.

This is simply the greatest dog on the planet. There is nothing that you can't teach them. But please don't get one if you are not 100% committed. I have 2 and we train everyday. Yes, everyday!!

I have a year old one and he is the most loving dog I ever had, I started brushing him in his first week with me and after 5 days one morning he was looking at me and I said where is your brush? boom he took off and 1 min later brought the brush to me, well I started hiding it but he found it in a few min no matter where I hid it, if he wants water he will go stand on foot in empty water bowl.

The strongest, fastest dog I have worked with. He lives to retrieve tennis balls. He's the only dog who plays catch with me while I'm going to the dog park!

Why won't these YouTube advocate for all the Malinois in shelters or rescues?
Four months ago I adopted Maxi, a 14-month-old Belgian Malinois from a local shelter. So far she's incredibly intelligent, loves to work and learn, we work hard but always end exercises on a positive, she also loves to nap with me as I watch a movie or read and loves my other dog. She has some fear aggression but that is slowly passing as she builds trust in me, interacts with people using a strict protocol and learns more exercises that build confidence. She's also shown interest in bite work.
While high prey drive is indicative of the Malinois, there are Malinois that are bite work flunkies and end up in shelters because they're couch potatoes with a low drive, not suited for police work, dog sports or Ring sports.
Everyday pet quality Malinois absolutely do exist, some of these lower drive dogs just want to nap next to you while you read or watch TV.
There are a more medium drive Malinois, these dogs are often better suited to scent work activities or other sports like dock diving, agility etc.
You might still need to keep the dog mentally stimulated and work them with physical exercises it's just that they are not the high drive over the top working line prey drive type that are typical of the breed.
This is why if a person can't handle a Malinois exhibiting a high prey drive then please adopt an adult from a Malinois rescue, they will match the dog's personality to the human and with an adult dog, you will know what your dog's personality will be.

I have a malinois, he's 10 and I love him to death. My advice is this: Please for the love of god, do not get a malinois if you do not have time, patience, space and the energy to take care of them.
They require lots of daily exercise, training and whatever you can do to keep them working. Mals are not lazy, they are not labs or cute corgis.
They protecc and atacc :) but in a serious way. You might be lucky to get the one in a million cute, cuddly, lazy malinois puppy but please think about it for a while before deciding because unfortunately there are more and more abandoned mals.
They really are amazing dogs, I just wish they didn't become "popular" honestly.
We adopted our boy when he was 2 months from someone who got him as a Christmas gift.

My neighbor had a Belgique GS, his name was Busy, for exercise I use to walk him, he was sooo extremely smart, whenever anyone walked towards us he would put himself in between myself and that person. Sometimes the neighbor would chain him to a trailer in his back yard and sometimes the chain would get tangled I saw Busy untangle himself by doing a figure 8 on more than one occasion. Busy passed last year and it hurts my heart til this day. I loved that beautiful smart dog ❤RIP Busy 😢

I agree with Sonya. This is a great video but may encourage people with a “lack of knowledge” to believe they are getting this amazing companion without having to do the work. There are so many Mal’s in shelters, the last thing the breed needs is to be encouraged to get a dog they CANNOT properly handle. DO YOUR RESEARCH. You may be the one in need of training, not the dog.
