She’s literally the only hairstylist I’ve ever heard say that.

Most stylists will tell you not to wash your hair before a colour as it helps the colour stick

Nope. As an Aussie hairdresser - natural oil actually adds a scalp barrier. I don't care how dirty it is. It's easier to manage if greasy

Sounds like a personal preference for this stylist.

I get my hair done by someone who tells me to not wash it for 2-3 days cause we bleach my hair and it makes a barrier with your scalp

I’ve never heard a stylist say come to the appointment with clean dry hair

My hair dresser really doesn’t care. She tells people it’s a judgement free zone. Been going through a deep depression and can’t wash your hair? She’ll do it. You’re disabled and struggled to wash your hair? She’ll do it. You’re super busy and run out of time to wash your hair? She’ll do it. She is the most kind and loving person. More hair dressers need to be like the one I have.

So you want me to wash it….so they can wash it? Yeah I’m done with salons. I can cut my own hair 😂

My hairdresser tells me to make sure I come without washing my hair that day for dying my hair lol.

I’ve always been adviced by hair dressers NOT to wash my hair, as the grease helps protect your hair and scalp from the chemicals in the colors/bleach, etc…. And if you’re getting it cut, they’re also gonna wash it anyways!
So basically…. This hair dresser’s answer is very confusing and most of the others think the opposite 😅

(of course, if you’re wondering about it, simple ask them over the phone so everyone is comfortable 😽)

As someone who does hair, I think it’s best to come with “slightly” oily hair, however long it takes your hair to get to that point isn’t important as long as you don’t smell.

I’ve known many professional hair dressers, many I knew on a friend level. A lot of good ones will wash your hair no matter what, as one of them said “I don’t care what they thought that Pantene was doing for then, I’m gonna get their hair thoroughly cleaned and conditioned with products I know that work”. If I was paying someone to do my hair, I would want them to be that thorough and go through every step of the process.

As a licensed beautician, I don’t mind washing my clients hair at all. I love to educate them on products that I’ve used in their hair to keep it healthy. ❤ Bring on the dirty hair! 🤣🤣 You’ll look and your hair will feel awesome afterwards. ❤

I used to dye my hair during my teens, I had every single color of the rainbow and more, loved to experiment with my hair and my hairdresser said to me from day one "don't clean your hair before coming in, it gotta be more than 24hs dirty which is still clean, if you can stay 2 days without wetting it, it's actually better" and that's what i always did.
I had more of a greasy hair back then, mainly because I used to "clean it" every single day which she (my hairdresser) used to tell me how bad that was for my scalp.
That's what prevented my hair and my scalp from getting damage/burn.
So, what she's telling you is wrong and should go to another hair salon.

That’s the main reason I don’t wash my hair it’s literally the best part of getting your hair done…it must depend on the person because my lady told me not to wash my hair before I come so I don’t know haha

(Licensed cosmetologist here)
The oils in your hair actually help to protect the scalp during color treatments… I was taught that it’s better if a client doesn’t come in with just washed hair because of that.

I don't understand why she wants you to wash your hair when she's washing it anyways. They've always washed my hair before cutting it

That's why I love Kenyan salons. They tell you to come as you are.

It is not typically advised to wash your hair 24-48 hours prior to a color appointment. Scrubbing your scalp creates micro-abrasions that can get very irritated and cause considerable discomfort during the color process (especially if you're lightening your hair). From personal experience, it's almost as bad as accidentally touching a hot stove with your bare hand or a dish fresh out of a 450°F oven.

I really like that the hairdresser was honest. Still polite and respectful, but honest. Good.
