For people wondering why she doesn’t just keep it on the counter, the water creates a freshness seal so it stays good way longer

As someone who has owned a butterbell and used it maybe twice, let me shed some light on this and why it's not more popular. The butter needs to be softened before you try and put it in the bell. The butter does in fact get wet but only at the very surface which isn't a huge deal. The water needs to be changed out periodically if you're using the butter a lot. Salted butter works better and stays fresh longer than unsalted; we dont use salted though. The water does splash and make a mess sometimes when you take the bell out and put it back. Overall I found it to be more work and more mess to clean up than just using a notmal butter dish. It also is not fresher for longer unless you frequently change the water. I had some butter that went rancid after 2 weeks, That never happened when we used the butter dish. It could have been several weeks old and the butter in that butter dish would have been fine.

I bought a butter bell because it looked like a clever way to keep butter clean and fresh. Which it does. It proved to be more work than it was worth. The butter needed to be softened before being crammed into the bell then it’s a drippy, slippery mess every time you need some butter.

“Lasts way longer”
“About a week or two”

Leave it in the fridge for months and pull out what I wanna use when I wanna use it.

I love how she makes it sound like she’s had this for ages and not just recently since they’ve made a comeback through social media

I've never seen such a thing. Great way to hold butter outside the fridge to remain soft. ThankQ❤

I had one, I hated it. It did get wet and it made a dippy geasy mess every time I opened it. Now I just leave a butter dish out on the counter n it’s just fine.

I just have a covered butter dish and I store thing in my pantry for weeks on end. It has never gone moldy. I do pop it in the dishwasher every so often but mostly because crumbs from waffles and such accumulate.

As long as you use salted butter, on the counter is fine in a butter dish. The water creates an airtight seal, but can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. I’ve been a dish user for a few years and I’ve never seen it go bad. Longest it sat was 2 weeks :)

I just use a butter dish, not sure the proper name but it is a plate that you out the butter on and then cover with a lid and it stays fresh and softened for just as long as the butter bell, but this still works. Great tip
