Example 3.4
A ball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 20 m s–1 from the top of a multistorey building. The height of the point from where the ball is thrown is 25.0 m from the ground. (a) How high will the ball rise ? and (b) how long will it be before the ball hits the ground? Take g = 10 m s–2.

how are we sure that the value of a in the second method is -10 as motion is going both upward and downwards?
EDIT- I got it !! In case there are others who have the same doubt--
we use Displacement and NOT distance in our equation of motion.
Isliye we neglect the path of the ball ( we don't look whether it is going up or down we just look at the straight path between the highest and lowest point) i.e 45m in this case. Thus the ball is going ONLY DOWNWARDS and acceleration=-g=-10m/s^2

Sir at 5:40, the ball is thrown upwards so it has reached another point than point A. So why don't we take the actual displacement from that top point?
