Astronomers over the years have picked up dozens of "fast radio bursts" (FRBs) -- mysterious radio signals detected from an unknown part of the cosmos. But for only the second time, they have now found one that repeats itself, making it more likely that we might find out where they come from.

"We give them only a small trickle of information...just enough to keep them interested, but never anything really substantial or earth-shattering."

Wait a few billion years for those signals to reach Earth, and we may get to hear the alien version of Don Imus.

Oh great now we have to put a neon sign in space saying Earth is full

That means they developed the radio 1.6 billion years before we did.

that signal was coming from 1.5 Billion light Years, so it must be sent a long time 1.5 Billion years ago or more because signal is slower than the speed of light, and whoever sent that signal is already dead a Billion years ago

Most people have no clue how are far away these distances are. When one looks up at the stars, some of them don’t even exist anymore, but they were so far away, that the light is just now reaching us even though they blew up millions of years ago. So maybe these light bursts could be millenniums old too.

Remember the twilight zone episode where the alien book was titled: To serve man, and it turned out to be a cookbook?
