Shaolin Temple has been invaded by tourists, with flag waving Chinese tour groups in every corner of the hallowed temple. We blame the current abbott, Shi YongXin, who has been found guilty of spending his time finding ways to make money rather than finding enlightenment (see The NY Times story). Is this the proper way for a Buddhist temple to be run? Shaolin Inc. is a big money maker and we are appalled at their plans for worldwide expansion - not for spreading Buddhism but for exploiting Kungfu monks into becoming salesmen for this thousand year old brand.
