Why do we need a third party, like the journalists and the media, to be the messengers anymore... when we all now have social media and internet and can talk to people in power or important people directly?

Media became quite irrelevant now. Media was only relevant when these modern means of communication did not exist so we had to have a select group of journalists to interrogate the important people on our behalf. Not the case anymore.

In principle, I agree however Journalists sometimes arrogantly assume that if they request an interview that the subject politician or otherwise must always agree. But to be honest this goes beyond politics, for example, Gossip magazines both people who write for them and those who buy them often confuse their desire to know for a right to know.
