U.K. Labour Party Leader Sir Keir Starmer has said that "serious questions" must be answered about a leaked photo showing government staff enjoying an apparent social occasion in May 2020, during the first coronavirus lockdown.

The photo shows the garden of the prime minister's residence, 10 Downing St, and features Boris Johnson sitting down with his then fiancée Carrie Symonds and their newborn baby, along with staff at a table where wine and cheese is served.

Starmer said that the public required explanations, considering that "during that period" restrictions meant that "there were funerals of people where very few people could go and mourn those that had tragically died".

Earlier Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab insisted the gathering was "consistent with the guidance at the time."

I'm reminded of the photo of Hitler and Goering at the Eagle's Nest. Genuinely.
