Question 5
How does pressure affects the changes in state of matter? Define Sublimation, Dry Ice, Condensation and Solidification.
Answer 5
Similar to temperature pressure can also influence the state of matter. Increase in pressure and decrease in temperature can liquify gases. for example Liquid Nitrogen. Carbon dioxide gas can be converted in to Solid state under high pressure and on decrease of pressure to 1 atmosphere it again converted back to gaseous state thus it is also known as Dry Ice.
Some matters directly change their state from solid to gas (or vice versa) without changing in to liquid is known as sublimation.
The process of conversion of Gas to liquid is known as condensation and Liquid to solid is Solidification.
