Sisyphus was both a clever ruler who made his city prosperous, and a devious tyrant who seduced his niece and killed visitors to show off his power. While his violation of the sacred hospitality tradition greatly angered the gods, it was Sisyphus’ reckless confidence that proved to be his downfall -- resulting in Zeus condemning him for all eternity. Alex Gendler shares the myth of Sisyphus.

An interesting note is that many of the tellings of the myth state that there's no-one there forcing Sisyphus to roll the boulder. He's choosing to do so out of pride. If he ever stops, the Gods win. So long as he keeps pushing, he'll never lose.

Bruh imagine some guy just wants to learn about the myth of sisyphus and all of the comments are talking about flesh panopticons and murderous GoPros.

I kinda like how in the game Hades, You can encounter Sisyphus taking a break from his punishment while the furies aren't watching. and have a quick chat, he's got a lot of muscle from rolling the boulder (which has a face and is named Bouldy) and he sees his eternal punishment as a great workout.

Sisyphus was pretty much smarter than the gods, they just had more power.

That was a really beautiful touch at the end. To have Sisyphus smiling to Zeus' shock. GIves me hope!

My 11th grade English teacher misread it as "syphilis" long ago. That was one of the best memories from that year, him telling us all about the myth of syphilis.

Little did sisyphus know, he would be used in one of the most funny historical games of steam, using the one and only boulder he was pushing.

I like Stephen fry’s telling, in which he implies that Sisiphus had a choice between the Elysium (haven of some sorts) or bring a boulder to the top of the mountain, and then he could be immortal and king of man. So Sisiphus chose the bring the boulder to the top of the mountain. What makes this interesting is that Sisiphus really thinks he can do this, and each time he fails he doesn’t care: he just keeps going thinking that, one day, he might just make it.
It tells a tale about human never ending optimism, even when you might as well give up.
