"One must imagine Sisyphus happy" Is a quote that has been going around the internet for a while now. But what does it mean? Who originated it? And what can we learn from it?

This is the story of Sisyphus

Thanks to Ted Ed for the animations to tell the story even better!

The fact that Albert Camus died in a sudden car crash is the embodiment of what he spoke of in his books. The randomness and chaos of the universe, and the mortality of every man. RIP

Sisyphus is happy because he gets to work out eternally

one must imagine sisyphus as a muscular naked man carrying a 40 metric ton boulder up a mountain

Because he gets better and better at pushing the ball and doing something to perfection is one of the purest forms of joy.

Sisyphus is literally all of us when we struggle day to day. Sisyphus is happy because each day he gets a little closer to a new high, just as we get a closer to our goal, and once its accomplished, while we dont start from 0 like Sisyphus, we start something new again, which is a new kind of 0.

So one must imagine Sisyphus happy, because we are ourselves happy when we roll our own boulders.

It just sounds like Zeus wanted to kidnap a girl and when Sisyphus told on him he got pissed. The fact that Sisyphus was a tyrant was just really convenient.

Syshiphus its basically a representation of the indomitable human spirit, so yeah, he must be happy tbh.

i think he was a man who could outthink or overcome anything including the gods so having a task that he can not finish gives him endless motivation to over come. i think he is happy cuz now he has a challenge

i love how some people are literally tortured by greek gods in the most painful ways ever like there organs being pecked by eagles, and then this guy literally married his niece, murdered visitors and cheated death twice and they’re like “push this rock idk”

I heard somewhere that the punishment only lasts until he admits that he’s not better than the gods, but he’s not going to do that because he tricked them twice, so in his mind he is better, making the punishment last forever

At one point, he could probably get strong enough to just pick up the boulder

I’m pretty sure the reason for Sisyphus never stopping is because he does not want the gods to win.
He wants to continue, as the moment he gives up pushing the boulder up the hill, is the moment he loses to the gods.
Sisyphus (I think) is supposed to be the story of the indomitable human spirit and the will to continue.

I like to imagine that Sisyphus just sees heroes pass by and just waves to them with a happy smile.

"Hello, stranger! How are you?"

Zeus expected him to fail and eventually give up the impossible task, Sisyphus is happy because he never gave Zeus the satisfaction of watching him give up. He defeated Zeus using the only thing humans have that the Gods don't, an unbreakable spirit even when faced with terrible circumstances.

I like this meme because it presents a deep philosophical quote in an accessible meme format lol.

The story of Sisyphus is about a man who didn't want to die.
The Gods, as punishment, kept him alive for eternity

Sisyphus, in his own way, had won
