Recently, I helped a person attain a GS-13 job in the federal government. This person was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and had originally targeted a GS-11 or 12. It is really important to not undersell yourself when looking to transition into the public sector. The federal hiring process can be confusing but if you research and talk to people on the inside, you can start to learn more about different opportunities you can reach. Have you started applying for a federal government job? Let me know down below.

It’s true. Don’t sell yourself short. I came in as a 14 after being a contractor for 12 years. Good content Armand! See ya in the next one!

Sell yourself like your life depended on it. Some years ago I went from the private sector to a GS14 at the max step due to my experience. I was very qualified for the job and i did very well on the technical interview (feedback I received). They matched my salary basically. Never sell yourself short; every single experience count. Eliminate your imposter syndrome as well; tell yourself you deserve it.

I just got an email this week about a job I applied to in December, so 7 months ago. I’ve already gone through the hiring process and worked for an agency for 3 months in this same timeframe.

Just picked up a GS-13 position after 2 months. Do not sell yourself short was my problem before I made all the changes

I'm another story, today was day 3 of me being hired. My hiring manager asked me to rewrite my resume and I went up to an NT 4/5. I am making MUCH more than I ever thought starting. I'm a veteran and experience. This story sounds like my story somewhat. I'm soooo stoked.

Thanks for the videos - they really do help at the beginning! I'm on the journey to earn a USG position...hearing about crazy stories concerning in processing. I won't say we in the corporate world are too fast - if you need a CAC Card of Clearance - it may be 30-60 days. But I hear of horror stories applying to USG. Oh well - keep trying!

I’m getting referrals, just waiting on interviews. 🙏🏾 I’m still going to apply for jobs I qualify for while waiting though.

Great content! Can you explain why hiring managers post JOAs for a multi-grade GS12/13? I’m finding that they’re typically only interested in hiring applicants at the lower GS 12 pay grade (developmental capacity) but will require the applicant to ultimately perform the work of the higher grade, usually BEFORE the applicant is eligible to be paid at the higher pay grade. I cannot see the advantage of applying for a GS 12/13 versus a single grade GS12 or GS13. Any thoughts?

Let’s just be transparent ok… being a government worker, you will take home about 60% of your gross more or less. I take come 56%. I don’t contribute to life insurance or dental, and I’m single. This is the life of being in the federal government. Your net is extremely lower than private sector, however they put that additional money into retirement accounts. So if your somebody like me that would rather not contribute to retirement and just have the more to invest into real estate then you will feel the pay cut. It’s your money but you just can’t use it until your old and wrinkly. P.S. the only retirement account that is a no brainer to invest in is the ROTH since they match it 5% if you invest at least 5%.

1:50 tweaking resume might not be as simple. For example, if I’m a civil engineer with experience in structural, how am I going to tweak my resume if I’m applying for a civil engineering position in hydraulics? I’m not going to lie and put tons of knowledge in hydraulics just to tweak it. Anyway, this is the problem that I’m encountering when applying for higher GS position right now.

I downloaded the federal resume template, and im planning to purchase the mastermind bundle. What should I put on my resume if it just says college degree in the specialized section on the job announcement? Thanks.
