Here I rate TV scenes from famous TV shows (Big Bang Theory anyone?) which have musicians, and give you the inside scoop on how they're actually playing. And you'll even get to see my cringey acting debut in a TV Show playing the violin. Should've practiced it before...

Mind blown. I watched Mozart in the Jungle years ago (it’s actually what inspired me to pick up my violin again after decades). I had no idea who Ray Chen was back then. Now, looking back, I can’t believe it was him in the scene! I definitely should rewatch the show because now I’d be watching from a different perspective.

from my personal experience from working on movies is that quite often the actors have no clue what actual music is playing or going to be used or how dynamically it will be played, only what direction they're given by the director, sometimes you can get purposeful overlay but quite often it's pretty difficult or not cost effective to try and match to something that may change even slightly and ruin the entire thing, so they just do a general take and use the best parts they can in editing, not the best idea, but sometimes that's all you got.
