Amish Life They Don't Want You To Know

The Amish, a unique and often misunderstood community, offer a window into a way of life that starkly contrasts the modern world's relentless pace and technological advancements. Originating from 16th-century Europe and flourishing in the heart of America, the Amish embodies a fascinating blend of steadfast traditions, deep faith, and a commitment to simplicity. Their lifestyle, rooted in Anabaptist principles, is characterized by a deliberate resistance to much of modernity, a choice that speaks volumes about their values and worldview.

As we delve into the life of the Amish, we'll explore the richness of their beliefs, practices, and community dynamics that have enabled them to preserve their way of life across centuries. We'll also discuss more controversial aspects of the Amish life, like the practice of shunning, where, in some cases, Amish boys or girls who decide to leave this way of life and join the modern world are ultimately rejected by their families who cease any interactions with their children, feeling ashamed and resentful of them.

this was well worth my time. in ontario canada there are amish communities. they are often thought of with much respect. it is good that the women are speaking out. they need to in a patriachal society. but much can be done with a dialogue with church leaders. the outside society is not their enemy. the outside community in my opinion is such that wants the amish culture to continue, as a reminder of a simpler time. there are bad apples in every culture, but most are of good stock. let's not judge the community by the bad apples. work with the church leaders as those from the outside who value their way of life. in this way everyone benefits. the amish community would be a good place to send our children two weeks of every year. they would learn much about life and value.

My father wasnt Amish but he respected our animals. He would never let us ride the old mule home after a hard days work. He never over loaded him either. Every mule we got seemed to be naned Bob or Bill. Lol

I live right in the middle if PA Amish Country (Chester County near the Lancaster County Line). What I can say about them is they are hard workers, I've been on job sites with them, rough framing, welding, roofing and short of having to pick them up (they don't drive vehicles) they are a joy to work with. I've played ice hockey against a few of their young guys, and they are trough, strong. Running into one is like hitting a concrete wall. They run into the animal rights groups from time to time, they are hard on their animals. They are quiet, keep to themselves. The times you hear about them is when the 21st century intrudes on them. Like when they are involved in traffic accidents (they always loose) a horse pulling a buggy in Honeybrook last year freaked out and pulled the buggy out onto Rt30 and was hit by a Tri Axel. On genetic dieses there is a town named after and Amish family and a genetic Disease; Klienfeltersville (Kleinfelters syndrome). Nobody in the buggy survived. last year some POS kidnapped and killed one of their girls and dumped her body up on Welsch Mountain. He was arrested and is awaiting trial in the City of Lancaster (hopefully he gets the chair!). Flowers and wreaths were going up at the entrance to their farm, the State Police asked everyone to stop that the family wanted time to themselves. I've lived here now for about 20 years and although making me slow down when I'm stuck behind their horse and buggy's, which is probably a good thing, it does not hurt for me to drive slower, I have always felt that they are an asset to the SEPA community. I know there is a movement away from SEPA, some have left and gone to areas around Dover, DE, Ohio and even Montana.

Isaia 7:13-14

I'm from Australia, so probably have no right to comment. Some years ago I was in L.A. at Union station, a large crowd of Amish people who were obviously visiting, were walking through a long enclosed walkway. A substantial amout of small children with them were abosultely terrified. The look on their faces I'll never forget, I'd love to know what they were told about the outside what they were not told.

Ummm, let's take stock: 53+ minutes of commercial interruptions for a 41+ minute video. Something wrong with YouTube.

These communities speak out on the perversion of the outside world but yet not all of the leaders but some moelest these young girls and then shun them...and even the fathers are doing it..the mothers seem to know it happens but wont say anything because of fear of being shuned....

Sad information regarding sexual abuse - shame on the leaders for encouraging silence and shaming the women.

I know a few Amish that were shunned. Their lives are just as normal as anyone else.

You realize that your assessment of why so many amish teens choose to become baptized into their religion and remain in their community has more to do with fear and mental cruelty. Shunning is what they will endure if they choose otherwise, and for them, an unknown outside world might not be worth risking eternal disconnection from their birth families.

I enjoyed stopping to buy produce and other things and interacting with Amish folk while visiting family in Pennsylvania.

At 22:46 you have a movie clip with actor Colm Meaney from Star Trek Deep Space 9 portraying to be a Amish person. You also have another movie clip with a woman undressing in front of a male as if he is inspecting her. These movie clips are not Amish, they are clip bait and do not show the true Amish life. 👎

Shunning has gone before the courts because it causes great emotional anguish look up “alienation of affection”. The family can be held liable for abuse and may need to pay restitution.

I live about 30 to 40 minutes away from an Amish settlement. There is good and bad in every society.Their religion is quite unusual. They believe getting to heaven by working hard following the ordinan( I don’t think i spelled it correctly) and joining the church. If you follow scripture you know this is incorrect. Their version of Jesus is not the same that it is in the Bible. I was taught the beliefs and culture through an x Amish Eli Yoder he has his own youtube channel. Getting to heaven is by excepting christ as your lord and savior. And admit what you did is wrong which is sin. And excepting Christ(Jesus) into your life. Don’t put your faith in religion but in Christ. There many other issues in the Amish culture but this is just one issue or problem.

I am all for setting standards, but when those standards become a shield it is not good.

Puppy MILLS make me judgmental which I dislike. They do some good things, but the puppy mill issue needs to be strongly addressed!
