3080 vs 4070 Ti vs 7900 XT: The Ultimate Comparison

Does the 4070 Ti really offer 3x the performance of an RTX 3080 12GB like Nvidia claimed in their announcement? No! But how does it really stack up to its most similar pricing class predecessor? And how does it compare with AMD's closest priced competition, the RX 7900 XT? In this video we compare them in many demanding games, including using Unreal Engine 5 Lumen and Nanite, as well as Ray Tracing and DLSS 2/3 on/off. The test system specs are below, and all footage was captured on an external capture card to eliminate any recording overhead (although this can introduce some screen tearing to the recordings).

In my opinion, the 7900 Xt is better prepared for the future with 20 GB of memory compared to the borderline 12 GB of the 4070 TI.

I love that you use actual percent differences, it is so much easier to visualize that way. With other reviewers I have to put the frames into a calculator to get the exact percentages, I can do it in my head but not 100% accurately.

no the reason the 3080's are so expensive is because theres nothing new priced to replace them. if the 4070ti would actually sell for 800$ the 3080 should now start seeing prices go down again. usually when cards release they are priced to replace the previous gen thus making that previous gen cheaper in turn which obviously hast happened this time. as they release cheaper and cheaper 40 series cards the 30 series prices should go down cause otherwise their price is pointless vs the newer cards.

This new GPU generation from both Nvidia and AMD is one of the most underwhelming of my 20+ years of following the GPU scene. If you have a 3080 or a 6800XT, there is nothing that would be a decent upgrade, except the 4090 which is stupid expensive.

You are wanting to do a "Fair" comparison between Nvidia and AMD.

This "Fair" comparison comprises Nvidia GPUs which are overclocked by the driver to the hilt (ever hear of Nvidia Boost?) where you have just bunged in the 7900XT, no effs given.

This is similar to comparing Intel CPUs to AMD CPUs where Intel basically has made PL1=PL2 just to score higher than it really should do in benchmarks.

I would suggest that if you are going to be doing a really fair comparison, you would run the Nvidia GPUs with the equivalent of Nvidia Boost off which would mean running the 4070 Ti with a maximum clockspeed of 2610 MHz.

RTX 4070 Ti is such a bad value card. I was really hoping it had better price so I can upgrade from a 1660 Super and finally jump to 1440p. Oh well, here's hoping the 4070 looks less insane than its Ti version, otherwise I'm looking into getting a 2nd hand 3080. Such a horrible time for PC gaming. ;(

You should choose the GPU depending on what games you play with.
In my case the 7900XT was the obvious choice, because i mostly play COD and i have it paired with a 5800X3D, in this configuration i'm getting more frames than a 4080 TUF that costs 500 euros+ of what i've paid.
For ray tracing, i am using ultra on cyberpunk at 2K with FSR 2.1 quality enabled, the experience is fluctuating between 49 and 70 fps, i can accept that for a single player game, but in Modern Warfare II i can get 165fps easy with this card, never dropping under.

when are these 3xxx series resellers going to realize the mining stigma is strong with the 3x series. no one is going to pay 600-800 for a used ass 3080 thats been running for 24/7 for 2 years. not our fault you paid 1000+ for a 700 msrp card. you cant get your money bacl thats not how it works. buying a 3080 now is a huge risk for the rest of us might as well buy a 4070 ti new and get the 3 year warranty.
