I've enjoyed listening in to the folks out there riding the waves recently and one thing I've noticed is all these operators seem like amazing people. It's interesting to listen in on all types of things but sometimes I just like listening to the cordial interactions between fellow operators.

Also, we got my son a 4-pack of Uniden radios that operate on FRS/GMRS channels 1-22. He uses them with neighbors in the woods out back. I was under the impression it is legal to transmit on these channels with the Baofeng at under 2 Watts. Ya. We eavesdrop sometimes. It's all good fun. It's more of a prepper setup for me, and fun for the boys.

Wow, thanks man, I’m going to get a uv5r and my license and I’ve been researching on YouTube, you are the first person to mention disabling transmission, thanks so much! Now I’m your latest subscriber!!! Keep making vids, Bud

You're videos are down to earth and explain things that are actually useful and a lot of people who have been in this hubby for a while forget that newbies like me don't know.

Not only excellent information about the *Baofeng* Radio but your camera work should not go unnoticed, you tackled both with ease... LM

Pressing the ptt button on a police freq will NOT transmit onto that freq unless You have programmed the repeater shift offset and the dtmf tone for that repeater. Still good practice though to disable it. We as hams need to spread accurate and helpful info

I have these for our UHF cb, no license required. The VHF band requires a license in Australia. I like the manual programming. Yes emergency services here have gone digital.
I can also recharge these on my 12 vdc car system in the bush. Use these all the time. Really like the dual channel function.
People may bash this radio, but it is affordable, and from my experience, do the job very well for my needs.
Thank you.

You forgot listening to ISS when they pass over you(if they transmitting) frequency 145.800. you'll need the app ISS detector to track the space station.

Not licened yet, so all of this is new to me. Thank you for taking the time to "dumb it down" for people like me. Example: The way you describe APRS I now understand that it's pretty much like the old computer dial up modem. Not in speed, but in function. Sounds that go beep boop and bleep get translanted into data.

FRS and GMRS are not monitored very often by the FCC and are impossible to enforce or control

Your should have included MURS with GMRS/FRS. There are interesting things on there from conversations to people's security systems and other automated devices. I have also used the Baofeng in stores. It has actually helped me find a cashier opening before everyone else and helped me jump to the front of the queue. Really nice during the holiday season. You should also have included Life flight, ambulance services, and fire departments. Many have not switched to digital even in areas the police have.

You can also listen to business band, department store employees, security guards, etc. Find out who is getting busted for shoplifting. If you have the radio concealed and an earpiece in, you can see if security is suspecting you of something as well. One time, I was even able to listen in to a fast food drive thru.

Good information. I haven’t programmed FRS or GMRS yet; I’ll do that this week.
