It's nice to see someone really encouraging the use of Baofengs instead of dissing them. Good video Mike.

Well said! So many people give this radio a bad rep but for the price it’s unbelievable. 15 years ago when I got licenced there was nothing like this. Puxing and Wouxun Chinese handhelds were at least 4 times the price. The uv3r and uv5r were game changers. Great video!

Is it the best radio ever? Certainly not. Is it worth the cost? Absolutely. Will it get you into the hobby cheaply? Absolutely.

100% correct! That was my "gateway drug" into ham radio. Nice video - it's good to encourage people into the hobby by keeping it inexpensive (at least to start out).

I dropped my UV-5R off my 4.5ft toolbox onto smooth concrete the other day. It was completely fine, to my surprise. Very much agree they’re little tanks

Thanks for the video. I just got mine and I'm impressed. I'm never going to buy cheap 4 packs of walkie talkies ever again.

i just picked one up for 25$ then another for 15$ haven't gotten them yet but im excited! my uncle was big time into ham radios he had a 100 ft rohn guy tower and during desert storm he would patch in families to talk to their military family. he had one hell of a set up. i was.young then but i wish i had his equipment now. im just starting to get into it and looking forward. i use to build cell towers and sites so if it comes to me wanting a tower setup it wont be a problem

I got one to listen to the railroad communications with absolutely zero intention of getting into amateur radio about 3 years later i now have several different radios and a technician's license additive for sure 😂

I stumbled across a pair of Baofengs off Wish and then searched around to find ways to program it then found amatuer radio, ended up a Extra class all in about a month or two.

Ok, from your video I learned that the UV-5R are cheap, had many accessories, and were easy to program. One thing I didn't learn is why I'd want one.

Wow your computer speakers are so old. I had the same ones 20 years ago!

Question

I have a uv-5r and have it programmed for the local repeater. Works great. I recently purchased a second radio uv-9r. Programmed exactly the same. On both radios, I can transmit to the repeater. I can hear others transmitting. However. When I speak into my 9r, my 5r does NOT pick up my voice. I can’t figure out why.
