Today I'll show you a secret electrical tool that you didn't know you had. Most people don't know about this tool and it could come in handy if you forgot your tools and need to change out an outlet or a switch. Or maybe you don't have a pair of wire strippers. No problem! You can still get the job done. Let's get started.

Eaton is like the only company that makes them. That is why a lot people don’t know about it because a lot of them don’t have it.

If a day goes by when you don’t learn something, it’s a wasted day.👍

This is actually a recent discovery for me, maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I noticed that my apprentice was installing receptacles with only a 5 in 1 screwdriver and linemans. She showed me how she was installing the receptacle and then said, " Bam! How 'bout that old-timer?!" Impressed, I bought her lunch. Work smarter, not harder.

I have over 30 years experience in code inspection. I knew the hole could make the pigtail, but never realized it could strip the wire itself. Very interesting! Thanks

I’m not an electrician, but to all the electricians saying they had no idea, the text of exactly what you need to do is stamped in on the box. It says “strip #12 wire” and “loop hole”. Maybe it’s only on some brands of outlets? Or it’s more of a “I don’t pay attention to the stuff stamped on our equipment. I just do my job and try to keep my sanity.” I mean I definitely get it, but also, the instructions are stamped on the outlet. I’m worried about you guys.

Nice tip but if you don't have wire strippers and are doing electrical work I would reevaluate my decisions.

As an electrician I did know this. I learned this yrs ago but you're right that most electricians don't know this. I was on a job maybe 20 yrs ago and I did this in front of my supervisor and he freaked out. He said " wow I never saw that before. Cool. " I'll bet he still does it to this day. I've since retired and am disabled but on occasion I have to wire a switch. I do this even if I have wire strippers.
