At 9:00 what if a was negative? Wouldn't you make that negative infinity so the inverse tangent would evaluate to -π/2?

You missed the special cases a=1 and a=-1... The solution is completely different but easier

cosx = cos^2x/2 - sin^2x/2
now multiply and divide by cos^2x/2... Put tanx/2 = t and proceed futher as in the video..😀😀

a+1 can be negative, then the inverse tan would be -π/2. Right?
