The Bob's Burgers Iceberg Explained

Bob's Burgers is such a fun show that I really do enjoy looking at different theories for this show. What's going on with Louise's hat? Is Linda and an alcoholic? What really happened to Bob's mom? All that and more.

I also think the bunny ears, whether it's intentional or not, function as a way to remind us that, despite everything about Louise's character, she is still a little girl--just a child who likes wearing bunny ears just because.

I always felt like Zeke was an example of healthy masculinity. He's rough and boyish but he isn't afraid to be affectionate towards the people he cares about and is in touch with his feelings. He's one of my favorites

That description of Tina killed me. "A hopeless romantic with a powerful sex drive and minimal social skills."
Solidarity, sister!

I imagine Tina always assumed she was right handed, until she found out people could be left handed; she tried her left hand and it worked much better.

One of my personal theories is that Tina is actually really smart and the only reason she struggles with math is because her glasses prescription is wildly outdated. In season 8 episode 7 (The Bleakening, Part 2) Bob mentions that they haven't bought Tina new glasses since she was six making her prescription 7 years out of date. By the time she does get new glasses she's already been transferred to the remedial class because she's so far behind. In season 11 episode 16 (Y Tu Tina Tambien) she goes from failing grades in Spanish to excelling in under a week by listening to old Spanish immersion tapes (in fact only about a quarter of them). It's clearly just a matter of interest and motivation.

My theory for louise’s hat is that she wears it to make herself look taller. Kind of like when animals make themselves look bigger to intimidate predators and stuff. Its also funny cause a little girl wearing a bunny hat doesn’t sound or look too intimidating, it actually sounds very innocent and cute. This would also work to louise’s benefit when causing trouble. Idk im probably just reading into it too much.

Missed opportunity not calling it Bob’s Burger’s iceberg lettuce: comes with iceberg lettuce.

It's interesting that you didn't mention that Gene has a canonical eating disorder, but maybe because it's canonical it's more of a "fun fact" and not for this style of video. In one of the Thanksgiving episodes he's sick in the bathroom with food poisoning because he compulsively ate chicken parm that he knew was rotten and knew would make him sick, and then was ashamed about it afterwards. We do see him in several episodes eat things that aren't food or eat things that are clearly ... not okay to eat. He ate a tatertot off the floor of the boys bathroom, he ate some of the green mold off the wall, ate a banana slug to go with his granola, and some other instances of compulsive eating. A video about your perspective about Gene's relationship with food would be super interesting!

I've always seen Zeke as romantically interested in Tina while I feel his interest in Jimmy Jr. could go either way. It might be a crush or it might just be that Zeke isn't afraid to show how important his friendship with Jimmy Jr. is. One of the things I like about Zeke is his rejection of a lot of elements of toxic masculinity. He frequently talks honestly about his feelings and even cries. He also has insights into other people's emotions that are surprising. It doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility that his love for Jimmy Jr. is platonic but strong, and he isn't worried about showing that, not being paranoid that people are going to think he's gay. But, I could also be talked into thinking that he's bi.

I don't think of Tina as the "odd ball out" as much as this video suggests. Her socially awkward but do-gooder attitude is very similar to Bob, who's always doing the right thing despite also being socially awkward.

With the release of the movie the bunny hat is even deeper. Bob’s mom always wore a pink hat and it was her “bravery hat” which bob admired. He gave her the pink bunny hat to 1. commemorate Louise on her bravery of going to school for the first time and 2. honor his mother. The bunny/pink hat is generational and is personal to bob, as much as it is to Louise who then learns her bravery is within herself. she continues to wear the hat in honor of her grandmother. (And because it would be ridiculous for the showrunners to just get rid of it)

I think the thing with Louise's hat is just that it's a comfort object, like Linus with his blankie

A common "theory" that mother is dead? Well, less of a theory, was definitely in a show: Season 7, Episode 7, at 4:11, Mr. Fishoader asks Bob, "How good are you at building gingerbread houses?" Bob replies: "Well actually, not bad, my mother and I would build them before she died".

I never thought Zeke could be gay. Jimmy Jr. maybe but not Zeke. Zeke has always been honest about his actions and feelings, and I think he just really values his friendship with Jimmy. On the other hand theres Jimmy Jr. In the episode "yes without my Zeke" Jimmy was very concerned about not being able to see Zeke, cause only seeing him on the Zekends wouldn't be enough. And the episode with the 2 butted goat Jimmy was very jealous about Gene and Zeke bonding. Plus, I feel like Jimmy Jr. uses Tina almost as a beard, doesn't give her much attention unless he's close to losing her.

Bob did say he and his mom built gingerbread houses before she died, "it was kind of our thing" 🥺

Just watched the bobs burgers movie and I can say that the way the writers described why she wears the hat is really cool and nice to see that they tied it to bobs parents and a way to remember them

I think the "the Belchers are dead" theory is just some people's need to make something more out of something than what's actually going on. I mean, Bob can seem a little crazy at times, but that theory really makes no sense. The entire town would have to be playing along with his delusions.

There’s also my favorite: every character is drunk but Bob.

I don’t think Linda is an alcoholic. She seem to have enough control to not qualify. I think she just likes to get crazy
