The delicate sniff of the bottle had me fooled for a moment, I must admit!

In my opinion this IS, the best keyboard solo I've ever encountered. No questions asked!

surreal fact: apparently the drummer was at a very short notice and flew in the same day without much preparation or practice at all, haha

This album was written in 4 days before this and then recorded in 4 sessions where they picked the best ones. The drummer wasn't there for the whole writing and rehearsing and learned it in 18 hours (including a 9 hour flight). This band is not human 😂

As much as alot of the attention is on Larnell and the amazing keyboard player.... But how freaking tight were the Brass??

Andrew - they started adding audiences to their recording sessions somewhere around the "Ground Up" album, because it gave them more energy performing in front of people. This crowd is some string musicians (for other tunes on the album) and fans that came out to see them.

This song is the perfect example of “are you rushing or are you dragging?!”
This song is such an amazing usage of dragging while still stayin together perfectly.

And then the legendary key solo, the bass drum does that pattern where it rushes the 1-2 1-2 1-2-3

It’s just amazing how this entire song is a percussive masterpiece. Like even during the keyboard solo - it is incredibly percussive
Like imagine this same song but with a basic back beat and if you “corrected”
The dragging pace of the horns. The song would just have an entirely different vibe.

Dude! I stumbled across your video and you almost had me with that intro! I was like “what is he talking about?!??” Great reaction! Lol

Cory's solo is so off the charts that it is easy to lose the sax and trumpet solos. Their tones are so beautifully close. The trumpet bends and squeezes the notes. Crazy good. Regarding whether anyone realized what they were about to hear....NO. Not even Cory did by his delighted expression towards the end. Sometimes there is an out of body experience and we were all lucky enough be along for the ride! (North Texas State has one of the premier jazz schools in the US)

Fun Fact: Larnell Lewis never performed or recorded with them before that day... or even practised.

Corey Henry's solo is one of the most glorious things I've ever witnessed. It literally brings tears to my eyes 80% of the time.

A great answer for the student would be like:
-Can i learn we like it here?
-Well... You can try.
