Whenever youtube throws one of these lingus reaction videos at me I just HAVE to listen to the whole keyboard solo, it's too good

"Everyone is equal in a band like this" yes, but Larnell Lewis is slightly more equal lol. And the keyboardist is insane too.

The way that the horns drag is just some of the heaviest shit I’ve ever heard.

When Corey Hernry plays his solo, we are all Shaun Martin.

Never forget, Larnell Lewis (drummer) was called into cover for their other drummer with something like 36 hours notice (it actually was likely less than that). He learned the entire album while on a flight to London on his way to record this. His playing is absolutely free of any ego at all. Every decision he makes is to support the rest of the band. Every little micro idea he plays with is done with absolute intention and focus. Cory is a god on the keys. Larnell knew how to match his intensity and bring it up. So great! He's also one of the nicest dudes on the planet.

Larnell Lewis, the man playing the drum kit who is shown the most had to learn the parts for this performance over the course of his seven hour plane ride to Europe where this was taking place. They're all fantastic musicians but that really blew me away.

Listening to that keyboardist’s solo feels like listening to someone with an infinite vocabulary. You don’t know what they’re saying, but it sounds good, and you know just enough of the words to realize he is making sense. What’s more important is that you can tell, both by the reactions of the people in the room and by you, is that he pulled off something amazing. The gap between what I’m hearing and what I can understand is great, but I know I can shrink it with effort and time. Lots of effort. Lots of time. And maybe not even then, but damn it I’ll try.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but Michael League, the bassist, writes and arranges most of this - if I'm not mistaken. This is all his brainchild. Hell of a brain.

Corey Henry is the keyboard wizard on that solo....
Damn...
I NEVER get tired of hearing this piece of art!

Audio tech here:
This entire album was performed live in a studio with a live audience as can be seen in the video. So there was a live-mix that occured for the audience listening along in their cans.
For the album though there was a seperate mix-and-mastering process for the eventual version that got released for the album and video.

Father forgive me. It has been ten days since I last listened to some version of Lingus. I know four days is the required amount, I will try to do better. Hail Larnell, full of grace, that, Cory plays at such a pace.

R.I.P. to Eric Hartman(engineer). He was a vital piece of Snarky Puppy, and a good man.

I would not have ever heard this unless I was subscribed to your channel. I want to take a moment and sincerely thank you. I have been struggling with debt, family members with covid, and just losing my mind in my house. This was such a treat to watch. Most reactors detract from the experience. Your input adds to it. I've been playing guitar and drums for 15 years and I always thought I had an open mind to music. But you have expanded upon that, enabling me to pick up on details that I may have otherwise not noticed. I truly appreciate your knowledge, your awareness of your audience, and your genuine appreciation of music. It's people like you that help people like me through trying times like these. I look forward to more of your videos. This was just an amazing experience to listen to. Have I said thank you yet? Lol.

Every once in a while, a musician finds themselves transported beyond the ordinary. Corey Henry was touched by god in this moment. Truly special and we’re blessed to be able to share it. Gives me goosebumps every single time...

Fun fact, the "bassist" is the actual director, and conductor, plus composer for the band. He's mostly the director

Nate Werth is the percussionist. Incredibly important member of the ensemble and extremely well respected in the industry.

The guy reacting to Henry's solo, Shawn Martin, has his own moment to shine in the song "Sleeper" and it's a beautiful track worth checking out in its own right.
