The government is defending itself after stinging criticism from former prime minister Paul Keating on its historic AUKUS submarine deal.

The former leader called the deal the worst Labor decision on foreign policy in over a century and a waste of taxpayer money.

Senior Labor members banded together to defend Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Defence Minister Richard Marles and claim Mr Keating’s view of China is outdated.

We dont respect our elders this former pm and treasurer got Australia through worst of times and all of sudden, age experience and proven track record is cancelled. This country is becoming a circus act because we stopped paying attention to the circus master and started letting clowns run the show.

A worst deal is the $3.4 billion of taxpayer funds wasted on the French submarine deal, that delivered nothing.

Politicians should only listen to themselves, the polls they sponsor, and the echo chamber they designed. That's where the truth is.
