Just observe the sun at night. It’s safer.

I always wondered what would happen. Physics told me what to expect, but actually seeing it is something else.

One of my nightmares is that somehow the solar filter comes off from my telescope while observing the Sun. So for the sake of maximum safety I set up the equipment with the steps:

1.: I observe the Sun with naked eye first with the solar filter in hand. I search for even minor scratches or punctures. If the filter is damaged, I replace it.
2.: I remove the finder in case it's still on from previous observation session.
3.: I point the scope to the opposite direction of the Sun. I aply the filter on.

4.: I apply heat resistant duct tape on the edges of the solar filter bracket, fixing it on the tube.

5.: I double check everything.

6.: Observing the Sun may begin.

That's why I always use the appropriate filters before viewing the Sun whether is using the proper filter like Baader solar film on my Newtonian or the Herschel wedge on my refractor, as it is still an interesting object to look at especially now as the Sun is getting more lively.

you can't be as smart as our people from NASA. If you want to look at the sun or travel there (NASA) just do it at night !! DUH!!!!

That's definitely not a 300mm(12 inch), that's 100mm(4 inch) at most. This telescope need to be collimated, and the mirror need to be cleaned.

I’m using my telescope for plane spotting but can only do it on daytime is it alright if I do it while being on the other side from the sun

i looked at the sun on max video zoom on my phone camera it didnt burn it looked like a yellow circle i didnt see the surface i couldn't see blue on the camera
