I love the fact that the name 'Rome' is more that just the name of a city in central Italy, it is a concept, a dream, an existence, a legacy.

The Medieval Times started with the Fall of Rome, and they ended with the Fall of Constantinople.

Up until the 19th century some people in Greece, especially rural areas, refered to themselves as "Rhomai", Romans.

The song is sad but still expresses power, glory and prestige. Truly worthy of Constantinople

Such a beautiful theme. I love that it's essentially an eastern themed song with slight hints of the epic feel of the "Legacy of Rome" track and a touch of melancholy. It's a fitting I believe soundtrack of an Empire in the border between the Eastern and Western worlds. Surrounded by enemies on all sides, it attempts for a thousand years to rekindle the Roman glories of old... but ultimately fails. Truly, the theme of the Byzantine Empire.

All of these people arguing that Greece is an unworthy successor to Rome. Much of the Roman way of life was based off of the Greeks, their Gods and many other cultural aspects. Rome was the successor to the Greeks to become the dominant influence in the Mediterranean. Who else but the Greeks could continue anything which resembled Rome in some form other than the greeks?

There's no such thing as a "Byzantine", really. At least not since the time the ancient greek city of Byzantion was replaced by the New Rome of Constantine. The inhabitants of the Eastern Roman Empire in its medieval appearance were called Greeks by the Westerners, Romans by the rest of the world. Rome was a multiethnic, universalist empire which accepted the Hellenes among its many citizen, while its very culture was extremely hellenized already by the time the hellenistic world fell.

I can imagine few days before the fall of Constaninople, Constantine the 11th going down to the imperial mausoleum where the tombs and portraits of all the great Byzantine emperors such as Justinian, Leon the 3rd, Basil the 2nd, the three great Komnenian emperors, Micheal the 8th and Andronikos the 3rd Palaiologos to ask for their forgiveness of not being able to protect the holy city from the Ottomans.

I'm not a gamer, neither do I have any knowledge of this game, but I think this music is BREATHTAKING. It's soul-stirring, and gives me goosebumps every time. The best track on the album, hands down.
