First Try With A Foam Cutter On The Module Project

I recently purchased a Gochange Foam Cutter for the pink foam on my module project. I'll be discussing the features and showing how I used it on my first attempt at cutting foam with any foam cutter.

Only recently has the pink foam in the 4X8 sheets been available in my area, so I've never had any experience modeling with this material. I'm used to the "old fashioned way" of creating a scenery base. So far, so good with my attempt to model with the pink foam. I still have a long way to go experimenting as usual along the way.

Tom, I bought the same foam cutter via your link after the live stream. Haven't fired mine up yet, so this video was a very timely tutorial. I have every confidence that my results will be similar. Thanks again. Art...

Great introduction to a really good tool. That is quite a value and probably wouldn't have found it without you help. I do believe I will be adding it to the bench. Thanks for sharing, Rob

I purchased this same cutter. Used the heck out of it all summer carving (G scale) bridges for my outdoor layout. I used the shorter rod to carve a lot bricks into the foam. Cutter continues to work well all though I broke the short rod by being to ambitious with a cut. Good value for the money.

Hi Tom, I just bought a very similar unit from another manufacturer. My results have been the same as what you got. The 'probes' are actually knife tools and are intended to be used exactly as you did. They are not as fast because they are thicker than the wire and are in contact with more foam so have to melt more foam so are not as fast. Thanks for making the video. -Rick

Thanks for the review. I've had this exact cutter in my Amazon cart for the last few days. After your review, I'm going to pull the trigger and go ahead and order it.

Good product review, I've had one similar to that one and I use a lot more than I thought I would. Thanks for the vid. , Brian

Hi Tom I have a cutter very similar to yours. The long “prob” or cutter is used exactly as you did but I found with mine if I use a sawing motion back and forth that it will cut a little faster. These are a great tool. Good video my friend. Papadan

Hi Tom, how timely. I have purchased a foam cutter -- the bow type but not the additional probes. Thanks for your demonstration which is helpful for my trying out my new foam cutter. Where I tend to be cautious in starting, you confidently jump right in. I'll be confident in doing my initial cutting after seeing your demonstration and taking your lead. THANKS!! - Dean from cold Minnesota

I’ve always wanted to try a hot foam knife that cuts wire. Can’t wait to see that water scene come together. Can you slice bread with it too?

Make a wooden frame and use nichrome wire and make your own cutter whatever depth you need. There are a number of how to make videos on YouTube. And it is a simple build.
