a great no-nonsense informative video. I have a Honda Jazz seven speed CVT with paddle-shifters and I can totally relate to what's been said about the CVT gearbox in the video. From my end, thumbs-up

As with all the pros and cons of each of those transmissions - the one people should choose is the one which fits the most their needs, driving style and location they drive in.
I live in Switzerland and as an Alpine country it has a LOT of hilly bending roads. Actually I spent around 70-80% of my driving time on such roads.
Previously I had Mazda CX-5 with classic Automatic Transmission. I loved that car for its responsiveness and the fact that such a compact AWD car was pulling me out of deep snow every time I needed (thanks to 21cm of ground clearance and good AWD).
At the same time its "choppy" automatic transmission was driving me crazy so often on those hilly windy roads that I used MT most of the time - which I loved, as it gave me always a feeling that i have control over car which, as you can imagine is super important on "serpentines".
Then we bought a car with DCT (DSG) and boy it made such a huge difference! No more chopping while changing the gears, it always knows when to increase or decrease them.
The comfort of driving with DCT in such places is incomparable (I drove cars with CVT too).
But I do realise that risk of something getting wrong with this type of transmission is much higher due to its complexity...
Oh well... that's the risk we have to take to drive far more comfortably and that's why I always ask for additional checks of my transmission every year.

I love the CVT on the Lancer Ralliart, it handles track days with no issue, just be on top of your maintenance at all times(Plus installing a reputable aftermarket intercooler will help prevent overheating).

The way you present the videos is excellent... but kindly avoid the background music which is disturbing a lot....

Cvt- fuel and smooth

Auto- for social norms

Manual- to feel engaged with the car

Dct- for fuel efficiency and for performance. (Basically a manual 2.0)

Torque converters are the best...it's a all rounder...smooth shifts... economy and cost effective

I'd pick AMT. But I never heard of seen them in the US at all and think they might never come here to be honest. But thank you for the informative video.

Additional pointer, DCTs are not smooth at a lower speed such as congested city speed/car park etc. They tend to roll back as they lack vehicle creep function like the traditional autos with a torque converter. DCT I feel are more suited for endless highways but not city drive.

I have a toyota vitz CVT 1000cc. Eventhough car weigh over 970kg It delivers 12.5kmpl in traffic and 20+ kmpl in Highways! Yes Acceleration is slow and rubber band effect hurts at times but in overall Its a great reliable car
