How to Reset M-Tronics on MS362C

The MS362C comes with M-Tronics version 3.0. Other saws that have version 2.0 and 1.0 reset differently and it's confusing. I bought this saw off of Ebay, once used, with no user manual so I took to the internet to try and figure out how to reset this saw. I couldn't find a single video that explained this properly, and the user manual I found for my saw online was extremely confusing. Since there's no video on the internet explaining how to properly reset an MS362C I figured I would make a video to help you out!

One thing I forgot to mention... DO NOT LET GO OF THE THROTTLE during the second > 30 time-frame until the engine RPM has dropped considerably and flattened out.

What i see most is many never read the manual and when theres a problem they panic, i never had a problem with Stihl, but your right on how to reset this! It's a fine saw hope you get plenty of use with it!

Thank you so much. I never had a problem with mine until a few days ago- didn't want to start after running warm. This totally solved the problem.

Thanks for sharing this information. The instructions in the manual now make sense, although nowhere is it mentioned when calibration should be done. Cheers!

Thank you! It works!! Going by the sound it makes while holding it wide open it idols down much sooner than 35 seconds, but I held it for the entire time and it runs great.

Yes that is the correct procedure for a re set on that model of the m tronic, I believe you only have to do the re set is when you clean the air filter or replace it or clean spark plug. The manual does dot indicate why or when this re set needs to be done.

The running for 90secs. only applies to M-tronic saws with software version 2.0 or lower.

For M-tronic software versions 2.1 or higher, it’s the 30secs at fast idle with chainbrake on, then 30secs. at full power with chainbrake off. During which the revs will raise from idling, to higher revs, to flattening out to lower revs., then switch it off.

Thank you. I could not understand the Owner's Manual. You clarified it nicely. One thing you did not mention is the decompression valve. In one spot in the Owner's Manual it says "you must press the (decompression valve) before every starting attempt." However, the Manual never again mentions the decompression valve in all its starting instructions. When should I use the decompression valve?

This is the procedure for resetting the latest M-Tronic generation 3.0, It won't work on the older MS362, MS462, MS661 etc saws.

This method is for the 362/462 which have a different generation of the Mtronics in them. All others do the 90-second thing that you mentioned early on.

I know for sure I will never buy those! Thanks for the info.

Right out of the manual. Good review. I have had to go for longer than 30 seconds on the full throttle run. RPMs cycle up and down on their own. Feels so weird. My question is how often do you need to do this. Manual is not very specific. Each time you use it? Once a season? When it’s acting up? How often have you had to?

Good explanation. Chainsaws and electronics - what an unnecessary concept. I currently have 3 Huskies and my favorite (455 Rancher) has a primer bulb. I can start that buggar cold with one pull. Automatic chokes and me do not get along (except on old cars.) Looks like a really nice saw though.

It depends on the software in the saw. 2.0 and below has one way and 2.1 and above does it another way. It should be on a label on your saw marked what software you have.
