I have been running a 661 for 6 years now. Had one trip to the service shop with it. It has been a strong running saw.

It's 2020 now. I bought the 261 cm. It is awesome. No problems ...just cutting.

Whoever took over to stihl manufacturing and thought process needs to give it up

I am very pleased with my 261c. I bought it 3 years ago, cut and bucked 30+ full cords of firewood and at still runs awesome. Last fall I got it pinched in a 20 inch diameter tree just as it was falling. I stepped away as the tree was going over, the saw fell out and the butt landed on it. Saw was still running but unusable with a broken wrap handle. Local Stihl dealer had a me a new handle in 3 days after I ordered it, and after about a 30 minute job to put it on (never changed one before) it looks and runs like new. Very pleased with the saw and dealer.

Converted to woodburning insert on Christmas Eve 2013 and have cut -3 cord with my MS 261C-M. So far so good!

The automotive industry has proven for decades that electronic engine controls can be reliable, efficient, and give good performance. Funny how so many people think that as soon as you put anything electronic on a machine that a failure is just around the corner. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, though. As for me I'll continue to enjoy the performance of my MS362CM.

Hate to see these bad comments. I've been running a 261c for three years and it has given zero problems. I run non E premium gas and syn, oil mix. Hope it stays that way. I see now they have fuel injection.

Best advertisement for the chinese clone saws that I have seen.

I’m just here to read all the negative comments from those who fear technology. A lot of the same comments I heard when EFI cars came around. The only constant is change.

I needed to purchase a new chainsaw. Looking at all this new tech has helped me to make up my mind.
I will never buy a NEW chainsaw, only older models.

What means a great deal to me would be the warrantee on a saw like this, electronic part have a history of not always working as they were designed to work.  Is the saw waranteed long enough to cover problems that might develope later on in the life of the saw.  If the saw is as good as advertised then the company should be willing to stand behind the design improvements for the life of the saw.

Thats why I keep my older Stihls going. I can see all that technology costing a motsa to fix. Right after warranty, solenoids, coils, carbs, digital this and that will all cause disappointment.

the last thing i want would be a computerized chainsaw

Sounds like technology has made it's way into the woods. Let's just hope we don't need to fix them in the woods.

Couple things - yes, EPA is driving.  Comment on the carbs in cars then and now, the first *UGLY* feedback systems in 1981, then MPI, then TPI, and now Direct Injection.  I believe over time this will be a good thing. Reliability is a concern for any new introduction but it isn't like the mid-80s when computer technology in engines was new.  This is commonplace now.  Also, hardware has gotten consistently better in terms of computers/microchips that can withstand harsh conditions.  I for one think it is a good thing and believe that over time will overcome issues if there are growing pains.  We don't try to buy the best if we arent serious about quality equipment and I don't think Stihl will let us down.  Also remember, Briggs and every other equpment manufacturer will need to do this to comply with standards.  One other comment - concur with person who stated previous models were better performers than current - I have noticed this also.  I think the switch to electronics will correct that as manufacturers have struggled to create carburetors to achieve EPA controls, and the net result was consistent drops in performance - maybe not noticable from one year to next, but over time the changes add up.

Great something that is going to cost to fix. The old way has worked for years. They seem like they want some service money now too.

I think that this should be a feature available on the homeowner saws more than the professional ones. I see electronics as being somewhat unreliable, which is just the opposite of pro grade. homeowner is more of a convenience thing (although price is part of it as well). if this was done without electronics, I would really want it.

How much can fuel eficiancy really matter in such a small engine,
