Hubble: Galaxies Across Space and Time [Ultra HD]

This award-winning short film transforms images and data from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope into a voyage that sweeps viewers across the universe and back into cosmic history.

The film opens with looming images of two mature galaxies that are relatively nearby Earth, and then pans through the vibrant and diverse panorama of thousands of galaxies in an image from the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey. The ensuing 3-D journey through these galaxies provides more than just a new perspective in space; it also takes the audience back in time. Because light takes time to journey across space, the galaxies farther away from Earth are seen further back in cosmic history. The virtual voyage reveals galaxies as they appeared billions of years ago, when they were still in the process of forming.

Originally released as an IMAX film, "Hubble: Galaxies Across Space and Time" was named "Best Short Film" of 2004 by the Large Format Cinema Association.

I love the concept of island universes

The universe is so big that a human brain can't understand how big it really is. Complete galaxies look like stars at the sky, but they are hundred of thousands to millions in lightyears and between the galaxies is even more space.. I think humanity is already dead before we can make something what travels on lightspeed and even that is not enough.. Before we can make that we destroyed our own planet.

Just read an interesting article that said if you traveled at light speed, you could go around the earth 7.5 times in just 1 second.

If Jodi Foster can get there without too too much difficulty then we should be able to do the same.

I remember when they had "live Hubble " the music was mesmerizing as the Hubble moved through space. That was beautiful beyond words.

What year will be in earth for the voyager if the voyager looks at earth now?

I have a question. Why do they zoom with no particular star or a planet. If the zoom is so capable. Make sure you focus one particular thing and let us see the details. Its like infinite zoom without any detail. Everything is zoomed in without a detail.

Always amazes me that with even the most powerful telescopes only show the nearest stars as points of light

So beautiful and memorizing bring trillions of galaxies many times more than number if stars in Molly way. Just wow. Billions of years for light to travel to us incredible. Those far out galaxies could've already had life and civilizations already come and gone before the light even got to us.

Are the results of these pictures properly analyzed ? Donot we are observing same stars at different cordinates in time and these spirals are just indicating paths of those same stars... and actual no. Of stars are far less than we observe through these telescopes ?

The Sombrero Galaxy is so cool looking, it's my favorite. I always think about the life that must live there and in other galaxies. We're definitely not alone!
