I had planned to do currency arbitrage by retiring to a low-cost country. But I’ve been so good at reducing my living expenses in the US ($1600/mo. including rent, utilities, phone, VPN, health insurance, food, streaming services, public transit) that I can’t find anyplace overseas to spend much less and get the same value. My new strategy is to keep my US apartment as a home base and travel abroad 4 months a year to escape Chicago winters!

You two are amazing. I’m sure you script everything beforehand, but your delivery is super personal and conversational. Thank you.

Such true statements! As I plan and research for our retirement, I just knew that Panama was going to be our retirement home. Then we went there and did not like it enough to plan to stay there. Next I just knew it was going to be Portugal. I did lots and lots of research. Then we went to Lisbon. We loved it but we're not sure if we love it enough to make it home. Now, I'm no longer focusing on one particular place. I'm taking your advice. I'm focusing on racking up points and making a list of places to go. Thank you for the tip about airline credit cards. That makes total sense. This was another good day at school! 🙂

I appreciate this! As a single childfree woman near 40, my family has never stopped waiting for me to return to the US & "settle down" but I was thinking that I would LOVE to go from country to country for a few years after I become fully remote work in a few years. It makes people nervous when I say I don't know where I want to end up, but thanks to you, I feel encouraged 🥰.

I just took your credit card advice and got the Amtrak Preferred card. 40, 000 points on sign up at this time. Thanks for showing the path. Robert in NYC.

Thank you for revealing some of your less-than-great experiences. You are always both so upbeat and encouraging about your travels that my skeptical alarm sometimes goes off, telling me it can't be all sunshine and roses 24/7. No one likes a complainer, paranoiac or doom harbinger, but it's very helpful to occasionally see what didn't go well.

Love your channel and the way you two interact together. I have learned a lot. I would have to keep budget closer to $2, 000 a month, our retirement income is fixed, and lower than your travel budget. But are maintaining a home, and only plan to travel for 3-4 months at a time. And mostly to escape Michigan winter months. I have found cheap cruises back to the US and planned a month in Europe ahead of it. I determined where to start by seeking out cheap flights. We catch jumpers to ORD from local airports. We get free parking and it puts us 30 minutes from home when we touch down, with our car waiting. We live very rurally, so it works as best option( we have tried others, and problems arose), kids are all across country, and no family nearby. We love the homesteading life, and relying upon ourselves. But that being said, we did a 30 day SE Asia cruise in Spring 2019, and 6weeks in Italy in fall of 2019, and we are excited to do more. Cruising gives you a taste for, each port, location. We can easily see us coming back to that location, or we say, pass. Like the country, just not that particular area. Be open minded, and when you don't know about an area, learn about it. I have invested in used travel books online, to read about countries, or even cities. I never plan to stop learning, and I am willing to invest in my own life. At this point I have over 2 dozen books and some places that we are not able to go to currently, due to the international climate. But it doesn't mean that we won't go there. We loved our time in Hong Kong, Taiwan as well as Beijing, and would love to go back again. We have fabulously memories from getting a couple of jumper flights from a small airport 45 minutes outside of Shanghai (my fault, wrong airport code), to catch our connection in Singapore to come home. No one in those airports had ever seen US citizens, and my husband had a beard, 2 tattoos and I have waist length red hair and freckles, so we kind of stood out.😊😊

Mainly mentioned about health insurance not such a big thing to worry during travel. Good video as always :)

Agree on the airline cc’s. I’ve been tempted but glad I focused on hotel and multi-use cards instead (other than a SW card that I’ve gotten some good use from). Am getting a travel ins policy for my upcoming fulltime travel but mainly for the emergency benefits since my health ins in retirement can be used outside U.S. Also considering a medjet type policy.

Another great video. We aspire to 3-4 months a year of travel, but many of your strategies work for us. We have often returned to a previous vacation destination and were under whelmed the second time thru. Follow the deals!

Glad yall mentioned the Insurance. I’m a new recent sub and that is my hang up, insurance. Although we know we want to travel and live abroad in SEA and healthcare is easily cash flowed there, I still get hung up on “Insurance”. The biggest catch for me is if I stay at my current employer for 8 more yrs, take early retirement 55 then starting at 65 I get free employer healthcare for my wife and I for life.
Decisions decisions lol.
Thanks for sharing your ideas and tips guys 🤙🏻

Love your videos. You two are so sincere, your advice are so practical and useful ! I’m curious about folks who travel full time, do you ever get bored sometimes ? What do you do in those cases. What is your typical day like ?

I love your videos. They're very informative. We've opted to move to Japan, probably permanently so the one thing that's more difficult for us is the tax situation. You're spot on with the importance of hotels vs airlines. We just can't get enough of Hyatt points. My partner is on a work visa so we're a little more limited for travel for a few more years, but we're expecting to spend ~100 nights in a hotel this year. Last year was over 200 as we let our apartment go at the end of the year and hadn't lined up our next location or his post-grad job. I'm fully retired now.
