Thanks for the shout out to barbershoppers! In the movie Twenty Feet from Stardom I found out that apparently record labels factor in a "tuning budget." Wouldn't it be a whole lot cheaper just to sing in tune??

My question is also about instrumentation. How does an arranger make the decision to use vocal instrumentation over lyrics? For example Pentatonix rarely uses instrumentation outside of percussion. Is it a personal preference or are there other factors?

Deke you are a badass. I watched Pitch Perfect multiple times. The Sing Off was appointment  viewing. And I can't sing or more accurately I did from time to time usually around drunken fraternity parties but nowadays nobody wants to hear me sing. But I still can listen. And you are cool.
