You are thinking small if you think someone is just going to gut one and put it in their garage as shelves. Some crazy physical media nerds out there still love and use DVD's and BluRay, if you managed to get some kiosks working, with say Arduino or something, or somehow set to freeplay they would absolutely love to have that in their media rooms filled with their physical media where they could use the menu to select and return their movies.

This would be really cool to have at home to organize all my physical DVDs. Imagine how cool it would be to just walk down to my personal red box select the exact movie I want and have a Redbox experience like it used to be.

you should sell one fully intact with a couple of movies in for top dollar, for someone can keep the experience alive in their garage or basement.

I like that the company was called Redbox, they made giant red boxes, and when they went into Wal Mart, Wal Mart said fuck you, make it blue like us lol.

I fell asleep watching youtube and this video starts playing . Kept jolting awake every time he closes a box.

I saw something online about someone who hacked the computer, and has their own collection in there. The wrote code to make it run on it's own and even a random select feature that you just tell it what kind of movie you want, and it will randomly select one that matches your choices.

Just a thought, the one you are scrapping because they already broke into it, take the CC reader off of it and put it on the one you're keeping for your garage.

I would like a cradlepoint, antenna and computer out of one of these to mess with.

I want a fully intact one, to store my full movie collection with the beacon. Damnit this hurts my soul to see him scrap it

I’d think the Motors, once taken off the center column could have enough value to eBay and if they have the typical info on their labels (maker, voltage, amperage) would be fast to comp and list. And if you are shipping multiple units could create multi-qty listings. 😉

that smartconnect beacon is a tracker... for the red box.... in case it ever got stolen

It’s sad red box is gone. 2 weeks ago I wanted to rent a movie and that’s when I realized that it’s gone 😢. End of an Era.

There are people actively working on ways to bypass the software and make it work manually. The word is, they will make that all available to people. Think man cave. I still love DVD and there are plenty like me that does. Imagine being able to put your whole collection in that thing and have it dispense to you.

See if the display says Elo or Hope Industrail. Alternatively, check the icons on the taskbar on windows by the clock. If so, those are worth a bunch. Stepper motor not so much. PC didnt look like anything special, but if it's an industrial PC then you might have something of value.

The linear rails in each, I know the DIY CNC community would love those. Cradle point is good remote access hardware.

Those motors are stepper motors, you can build a lot of cool things out of stepper motors like 3D printers an CNC machines! Also they have to be strong high tork motors to move all those DVDs!

i dont think they go into the "bucket" when returned I think they go back to a spot so they can be rented again.

7:15 that thing is a "this side up" indicator... clear tube is sticky inside connected to a well of red sand. If tipped over or upside down, the red sand fills the tube and when righted the sticky tube displays red sand proving rough handling... so if damaged the shipper has to pay for damage instead of "was damaged before shipping" 7:37 <F9> &/or <F10> will break out of auto-boot

Some physical media nerds would love this intact.. also the thing your calling wifi looks more like a cellular modem

I would have tried to sell them as is. Some physical media guys want these in working condition. It would have saved you the time and effort ripping everything out. People have been working to hack the computer to let people use these at home. I think more buyers would be interested in a complete unit not the shell. Don’t rip out the inside of the one you keep because people want that intact.

Many scrap yards buy metal with hard plastic still attached, which is preferred over the dumpster option where you pay per pound

The round shelves are the part I would want.
