How to setup your Next Gen console with your GoXLR

Even though the next generation consoles don't feature an optical audio port, you can still use them with your TC Helicon GoXLR. This will work with the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or the PlayStation 5 (PS5). Also, there's a quick tip if your using the Astro A50 headset that should make your life much easier. What if you have a dual PC setup and your Line IN/OUT ports are already populated with other connections?


There are a few other ways to do this that will generally result in a better quality of audio and not require the Line IN port to be available.

This is a great little workaround none the less!!!

1: HDMI audio extractor. These give you the optical output to connect to the console input on the GO XLR, nothing else changes. Trick here is finding one that supports 4k/120Hz passthrough, they are not plentiful just yet.

2: Monitoring the output from the capture card in OBS. You can select a specific playback device on the PC for the capture card audio to play out to. Could assign it to Game then assign the mixer channel to the same output. Trick there is that you need to have OBS open to hear your console audio, even if you aren't streaming.

Neither are perfect, but they are options for folks that don't have the output on the monitor or are on 2 PC setups

I actually use the aux from monitor as you said with the astro mixamp. 3.5mm from monitor to aux port on mixamp and I can now get 3d audio from ps5 and have game/chat audio all heard in obs. This has helped me remove the audio extractor all together. Now I use the optical from 2nd pc to mixamp. I hope this method also works with goxlr when I get one.

my only issue with using the GOXLR is when i stream... I can hear the game audio.. but the stream can't hear the game audio. do you have any idea how to fix this? I play on the ps5
