Welcome to this week's Tribe Tutorial, we are now getting into the nitty gritty part of becoming a kitesurfer, the board starts. At this stage in your kitesurfing career you're looking to ensure that you're going out at the perfect time to enhance your learning experience. You should be looking for flat water, suitable wind conditions and the right size equipment. Board wise you should be looking at a high volume board or generally a longer board when you're talking about twin tips.

This part of learning to kitesurf can be frustrating if you have never done board sports before. My immediate advice is take your time, make sure you are completely comfortable with flying and managing the kite. If your kite skills are poor, progress on the board will be slow. You're almost there so good luck and enjoy the ride!

Tribe Watersports is a kitesurfing school that operates in Watamu, Kenya. We are always happy to walk you through the different riding spots and provide you with all the information you need to ensure your time in Watamu is not only great fun but also safe.

Our Tribe Tutorials are intended to be an add-on to your Kitesurfing lessons, these videos are to be used as reminders and or a review to your actual kitesurfing lessons. They are not to be used as a replacement to profesional tuition from a qualified kitesurfing instructor. Tribe watersports offer professional kitesurfing tuition in Watamu, Kenya please get in touch to book in for tuition for any level. I couldn’t help but smile after watch the from the start to the moment the wind pulled you right out of the water. Everytime you came out I smiled again and again. So cool!

Love how relaxed you look. This is probably the most helpful point of all - it is not some kind of strength contest to get up.

This was a great video compared to others. Keeping tension steady is something I missed in individual lessons and other videos. Thanks

Really outstanding video. You explain important points for a beginner to utilize. Thinking back to issues I have dealt with, failing to keep tension on the kite when I start to sit down, putting both feet up and into the straps, at the same time, bringing the kite back up quickly and turning your hips downwind all have corrected problems I have had in waterstarts. Please continue instructions for moving forward.

Never done it but I feel I can do it now lol!
I do have kiting, jumping with kites as a kid, and a lot of water sport experience (sailing, surfing).

Really good explained video. My main trouble is when (quite always) the sea is not as nice and flat as in your video. What to do when you you are in such a condition? Usually when I'm ready to send down the kite arrives a wave that modify my position... Thank you

Would you follow the same steps if you were in a high wind day (25 knots plus)? I had one of those during my lesson and kept crashing the kite.
