Just wanted to define proof of concept here! More specifically, I am referring to proving the use of these types of gears (which I did not invent, they weren’t invented probably hundreds of years ago) in a project that I’m working on- I was also trying to prove that I could 3d print them, and have them work smoothly for this application 😎

Just wait till he finds out how differentials work

The poor guy failed to account for the high percentage of mechanical engineers coming across this video.

I feel so bad, he didn’t account for the fact everyone is an engineer, and a smartass.

Mechanical engineers: oh look at this little cutie, he’s taking his first steps

“helical gears” (invented in 1897) is getting a rebranding in 3…2…1

This guy is gonna invent wheels next week

I think it’s dope that he discovered this on his own, not knowing it already existed to begin with.

Poor guy, he didn’t know this short was going to be recommended to every professional mechanical engineer.

Helical gears, basically standard in car gearboxes, quieter.

If he had no idea this already existed. Then he is pretty smart for figuring it out.

The major downside of this configuration is that the gears only slide into each other, instead of rowling. That increase a lot of wear and tear, decrease efficiency and create all sorts of issues with lubrication and heat. There are other types os perpendicular transmissions that should be considered, before using this kind of gear configuration. Use this only at last resources and with a short lifespan of the equipment.

i like how everyone is treating him like an idiot despite the fact he made clear he doesn't think he invented this, but its rather a solution to a problem he had on a project

“If you’re wondering why I need two gears that mesh with perpendicular axes, I’m building this device that has two gears that mesh with perpendicular axes.”

Next he will file a patent for the circular rotating support called " wheel".

“And i twisted it 90°” *twists it 45°*

It's a 45° shift, they interact at 90° from each other

The fact that he’s discovering these principles on his own speaks volumes. It’s easy to quote a book but how fast can you catch up to its knowledge on your own. That’s the difference between knowledge and implied intelligence

Not an engineer, but a former machinist and one of those jobs was at a gear shop. Made tons of gears like this. Mostly for aerospace.

That's how transmission gears are made. The reverse gear is straight gears and it's why it whines in reverse.
