My kids are teenagers. On mothers day, (im a single mum), i just ask my kids that we all watch a movie together, play a boardgame, and we get uber eats for dinner, with no fighting. The fact that they manage this, proves to me how much they love me. It takes a lot. ❤😊

I once told my mom I didn't have a gift for mothers day. She said "It doesn't matter. It's just a holiday for businesses to make money".
She wasn't completely wrong

Mother's Day must suck for people who had really cruel or absent mothers in their lives :(

My mother was abusive my entire childhood & still is in my adult years. Mother’s Day is her day where she goes online to spread lies & play the victim & try to gain sympathy. I went no contact awhile ago because of her behaviour. I find it ironic how people will say things like you only have one mother & you need to forgive her. Yet if the abuse was from anybody else you would be told to get out of the relationship for your safety & mental health. I hate Mothers days & refuse to celebrate it.

My mom passed. This is my first mother's day without her. Cherish your mom every day. ❤

Most American holidays and capitalism go hand in hand in America.

My mother abandoned me in a run down sleazy hotel room as a baby in hopes I would die. Mothers day has a very different meaning for me.

Holiday comes from the word Holy.
Each of those days are wicked and the catholic church is at the top and they get paid from each. I don't celebrate anything on that calendar, the Most High YHWH never asked us to

"Mother's Day" is only reserved for those who think they need it and for Bad Mothers Around The World. Honestly, if you're a great Mother, you should be honored every day of your life, not on the 2nd Sunday of every year. Same thing goes for Father's Day as well.

Our mothers and fathers should be honored everyday...it's kind of a commandment 😉

I am actually a relation of Anna Jarvis, a third or fourth cousin. I was always happy to be related to the woman who wanted to honor mothers on mothers day. It is very sad that she did not get to realize the true vision she intended, or her mother either. Yet, I feel that her intention is still the basic ground of the holiday and if all the commercialism was swept away, people would still choose to celebrate their mother's if they had good experiences of childhood and love from their mother. So her vision is not entirely lost. She must have been quite a determined woman to keep fighting for it til the very end.

That's why I don't keep the feast days of man. It's all about self. You should treat the ones you love everyday with respect. I'm not impressed with anything on mother's day, what about the rest of the year.

Not all Mothers or Mom's are worth celebrating. It depends on how they behave toward their children. Are they abusive verbally, toxic, or physically violent? Are they loving? Are they neglecting their duties as a Mother or Mom? Did they abandoned their children?

I love Jarvis Mother's idea of meeting the health and safety of baring and raising kids. Shoot, my son was the 1st newborn I held. It could be a day that experience Mom's can encourage young Mom's with humor, knowlege and love.

My mom actually had (rhetorically) asked if the tradition was even necessary, or if it was just for businesses making money / commercial, so on and so on.

We agreed that every day: you should honor your parents. Not just a single day of the year. As it says to do in the Bible.

Otherwise, I wasn't sure of the origins of the holiday or what she wanted to hear when she had asked about it's history. She most likely asked me since I'm the "History Nerd" of the family and should (somehow) know everything. 😅
Nice to get the answer now, in case it comes up again.

In 2019, my mother died in March, my daughter died in April, and Mother’s Day is May. Those three things are forever linked and it’s excruciating.

My mom passed away a few years ago. She used to play the piano when I was young and it was such a trip when the music playing at around the 2 and 3 minute mark started playing because that's one of the songs she liked to play and it sounded just like her playing it. 😭
We were very close and the best of friends. I miss her alot.

My mom loves all the holidays.
She uses them to try out new ways to blame, shame and guilt-trap.
Triangulating her 3 offspring against each other so she can play the long suffering woman has been a family tradition even before I was born.

My mother unfortunately has passed and she was an amazing mother so I enjoyed honoring her everyday and this day in particular and I still burn a candle for her on this day.
