Jackie Chan really said he was never home to help raise his child and wondered out loud why his kid wasn't more like him.

It's good knowing that Jacee isn't just sitting around doing nothing. Even after all the disappointments from his films, he's not quitting. Respect.

There's a bit of irony in this whole thing. Jackie's work ethics is why he has become so successful, but it's also a factor as to why Jaycee grew up the way he did. He was too busy doing his own thing and didn't give the proper time and guidance to his own son.

A neglectful dad is worse than an absent one. Not knowing your dad is hard but knowing him and seeing that he doesn’t care about you at all is even harder. 2 weeks a year. That’s torture to a child.

I honestly feel bad for Jaycee. Living in the shadow of your father your whole life isn’t easy at all.

Jesus. Never knew that Jackie Chan had a son, let alone the life he had to live. Sunny is the only YouTuber I can watch do an entire presentation about a person I know nothing about

Jackie has a kid...sees him two weeks a year...and then complains that his kid turned out bad...well no shit. YOU WEREN'T THERE.

Jackey wishing for his son to be a doctor, engineer or lawyer is the most Asian thing I have heard today.

I dont think Jackie realizes that alot of this falls on him for not being a parent. Speaking from experience, not having your parents be present in your life, in emotional or physical capacity, really does a number on kids/teens. As a "young" adult I've come to understand why my parents weren't the best, but it doesn't lessen the impact of not having available parents in a period of massive brain developers. It seems, I went the route of becoming an adult while being a child, while Jaycee went the route of angst and brooding. Which neither are good, but one is easier to recover a broken/breaking relationship from than the other. I'm glad to see they are atleast trying to make things better between each other.

From my understanding, Jackie's biggest issue was naively assuming that just because he went thru hardships and came out on top, that his own son would end up the same as well.

But everyone reacts to trials and tribulations differently, and what Jaycee ultimately needed from the looks of it, was just a father who was around alot more

What you forgot mentioning here is Jackie Chan also cheated a lot on his wife. Jaycee said in his interview that "I saw my mom crying secretly in her washroom, but she did not choose to divorce him and endured the fragile marriage because she wanted to raise me to be a better person." I feel bad for Jaycee and his mother. Of course, she has her part in his son's upbringing, but you gotta admit that she was also a victim of Jackie Chan's selfishness.

Jaycee was doomed from the start. You couldn’t possibly expect him to live up to such a name like Jackie Chan. This is absolutely heartbreaking he might not have faced the same struggles as Jackie Chan but he’s definitely faced his own struggles I can’t imagine constantly being made to feel as though you’re not enough bc of who your father is. He didn’t ask for any of that and such a big hassle made over marijuana? They’re lucky he wasn’t dabbling in much harder drugs. This is all so sad. I wish the man the best.

Hot take:
If Jackie Chan only interacted with his son for two weeks out of every year, not only does he have no right to complain about how he turned out, but it's also his fault. He clearly had enough money to turn down a few movies, he could have made time to raise his son right, he could have implemented the discipline he constantly talked about, but he didn't.

Honestly the fact that this kid doesn’t blame it on his dad speaks a lot to his character. In his memoir Jackie also mentions excessive drinking, infidelity and even abusing Jaycee when he was a toddler. Kid was spoiled rotten but can anyone really blame him for how he ended up? Also Jackie is 0/2 now which makes you think who’s really at fault here

This isn't a video about a bad son, this is a video about a bad father

I hope Jaycee manages to fully turn his life around. He deserves it, and Jackie does too - not as the world famous actor, but as a father.

I actually feel sorry for Jaycee. While he had almost everything he needed from the start, the one thing he didn’t have was a strong connection to his father and the lessons that come with it. Jackie enabled his son and wondered why hard work was such a foreign concept to Jaycee.

I honestly feel so bad for any celebrity's children. To be in their parents shadows must be the worst feeling

The fact that Jackie blamed his son's issues on his wife and providing for his son and not on the fact that he was absent aa a father is really sad and shows a lack of true reflection and self- awareness. He was upset that his son lacked discipline but he wasn't around to teach it to him.

I have respect for the fact that Jaycee is still moving forward with his projects despite the crappy hands he's been constantly being dealt, the countless failures he's experienced and always being compared to his father.

Jaycee is still going after an insane amount of scrutiny. Though he has his flaws, the guy has one hell of a backbone.
