In this video I begin the memory unit by introducing a few key terms (encoding, storage, and retrieval), explaining why it's important not to extend the "mind as computer" analogy too far, and briefly outlining the 3-Box model of memory first proposed by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin, which includes stores for sensory, short-term, and long-term memory.

Thank you very much for not making long introductions for several hours, and getting right down to business. The only channel on which I don't get nervous.

Thanks for your awesome videos, I have a question, does the stimulation of amygdala which is on the top of the hypocampus determines how much time the memory remains there, I'm curious about this because there should be a reason that amygdala and hypocampus is so close, and does it mean the amount of emotion we feel determines how much hypocampus will be stimulated?

Hi Michael, If you don’t mind explaining this answer to me from a study exam test.

A patient with impaired semantic knowledge about living things (foodsandanimals)but intact semantic knowledge about manufactured objects (tools) often has:

And the answer was:
impaired semantic knowledge about musical instruments and intact semantic knowledge about body parts

I have no idea how that answer fits with that statement.

Is this also what's called the Modal model? That's what my book/class has been calling it.

Hi really appreciated you for making all these review it really helped me grasp the concept better.

Can I also get your opinion on the following question? Personally I feel it’s 2) but my classmate say it 3) which is memory but I feel that memory are subjective in this case. Thank you for your help! Based on what you learned, which of the following examples is the least illustrative of the subjective nature of our human experience?

1) Apprehension when starting a physically demanding exercise routine.

2) Finding a cat's face in a picture of black and white dots.

3)The memory of your last family holiday.

4)Being surprised when your surgeon arrives with pink hair and is covered in tattoos.
