Growing up I used to see a lot of conch shells just lay around on the beach. But now very few large shells are found.

Growing up on the Eastern shore of Florida I remember seeing all these shells as a child

I have all of those shells, except the shells from the Middle East. I think they are the jewels of the sea. I have alway loved shells, even as a child. Living here in Florida, I have them all over the house along with coral. They intrigue me more than anything in nature.

I had a turbo snail in my 60 gallon reef tank to eat hair algae that was becoming a problem. It went in at one inch, but it didn't take it long to reach 3 inches.

You should also mention that cone snails are highly venomous. Never touch a cone snail shell unless you know it's empty.

In 18th century Amsterdam, shell collecting was all the rage. Rare shells were sold and them some were destroyed to raise the value.

If you find a shell with a living snail put it back to the sea again, why the snail is attacking is because of self-defense, have respect for the living nature and don't take home a living creature who belongs in the sea. If it's an over left shells you can take it home.
